So after a cross-post on SW (thanks JeffNew1213), I got the answer to my question. Simply mount the latest vCenter server ISO, run the installer and you will be prompted to upgrade. Also do the same for update manager. I also had to clear cache and cookies in Firefox to successfully login with my AD credentials.

I found this, but I am not sure if this is the only thing I need to do.

      http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-60/index.jsp#com.vmware.vsphere.upgrade.doc/GUID-D4544ADE-ABF4-4E7B-B8BF-FB37FC100B4A.html

Update the Java Components and vCenter Server tc Server with VIMPatch

You can separately update the Java version of all vCenter Server components depending on JRE server by using the VIMPatch ISO file.

You can apply the patch without reinstalling the vCenter Server components. The patch delivers updates for JRE.
      Prerequisites
■Download the Java Components patch from VMware downloads page at https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/patch. The name format is VMware-VIMPatch-6.0.0-build_number-YYYYMMDD.iso.
■Stop any vCenter Server component operations, as when you apply the patch, all running services will be stopped.
      Procedure
1-Mount the VMware-VIMPatch-6.0.0-build_number-YYYYMMDD.iso to the system where the vCenter Server component is installed.
2-Double-click ISO_mount_directory/autorun.exe. A vCenter Server Java Components Update wizard opens.
      3-Click Patch All.

The patch checks whether the Java components are up to date and silently updates them if necessary.

    • Resolved - vCenter Server 6 (Windows) - Do I Need to Do Anything to vCenter Server to Update from 6.0 to U1b?

I have vCenter Server 6 running on Windows and I just patched my 3 ESXi 6 hosts to bring them to Update 1b. Do I need to do anything to my vCenter Server installation? I can only seem to find mentions of updating the vCenter Server Appliance.

    • RE: Resolved (Pertino client bug): DNS Records Not Updating Automatically

@scottalanmiller Thanks, I did have them assigned as dedicated resources/DCs.

It was definitely a bug in the Pertino client (build 520):
So after dealing with Pertino support, they recommended I try the previous build (510) and that seems to have corrected the issue. They mentioned there were some other problems that led them to pull down the 520 build from the site and replace it with the 510. Support said that a new build (526) should be released soon.

    • RE: Resolved (Pertino client bug): DNS Records Not Updating Automatically

@nadnerB Yes thanks. I think I have traced it to the Pertino client being installed on the DCs. I am waiting to hear back from them but basically every time I uninstall the client from my DCs, client systems that do not have anything to do with Pertino start working again. Once I install it again, the records stop updating dynamically when the IP address changes. I tried it about 4 or 5 times can reproduce the results every time.

    • Resolved (Pertino client bug): DNS Records Not Updating Automatically

I noticed today that when I was trying to connect to a windows 7 client with a UNC, it wasn't giving me the correct system. I started investigating and found several computers that had DHCP addresses that were different than what my DNS servers where showing.

I found that my DNS servers had scavenging set for 3 days and my dhcp scope was set to 1 day leases. I changed the scavenging and then made sure that I selected to scavenge for stale resource records. This did not seem to have any effect on the records.

I then started testing using a test system. I got an IP address for the DHCP server and saw the hostname. I checked DNS and it was correct. Next I changed the IP address from DHCP to a static one and specified the proper DNS servers. It has been about 45 minutes and DNS still shows the old ip address in the forward lookup zone.

So it looks like it will add new records but not update existing ones.

I started wondering if this had something to do with installing the Pertino client on my DCs last Friday but am not sure. To be safe, I have uninstalled it from all 3 DCs. I am still facing this issue.

So I did that and found the pertino client file was already in the root directory from when I ran the smb client get command. Ha! Thanks again!

Ah. So if I use filezilla, I would have to enable FTP on the Ubuntu server?

Thanks for the tips. I would also like to learn how to do it from the Linux side (I am working through your learning linux series). Would you know where the file ends up if you just use the get filename command?

@scottalanmiller Do you think the differences in CPU (iseries vs xeon) would actually matter?

    • Ubuntu: SMB Client Get Command

I am trying to manually install the Pertino client on a fresh Ubuntu 15.10 VM. I am trying to copy over the installer for the pertino client from a Windows Server share and since I am pretty green when it comes to Linux, I am not sure of some very basic commands in how to do it.

I am using the smb client to connect to the share, then using get to download the file to the Ubuntu server. However, I do not know where the file ends up. I checked the /tmp directory but it is not there. After connecting to the share I am running:

      get pertino_520.4587-1_amd64.deb

I see the progress and speed of transfer. Is there an option to add the destination to the get command? Is there a better way to do this?

    • RE: Geovision Network Video Recorder - Anyone Using a Xeon CPU?

I really only cared because I wanted the out of band management that iDRAC provides and DELL doesn't offer it on non-server class systems. I could get an IPKVM but I would like to avoid it if possible.

And come to think of it I am running their supplemental/client software on my workstation with a Xeon CPU.

    • Geovision Network Video Recorder - Anyone Using a Xeon CPU?

I am replacing on older whitebox system that is running Geovision NVR for a mix of analog and IP cameras. The analog card is becoming problematic and the system is now over 5 years old. I have purchased a new card and am now trying to get a system that is more standardized with warranty and a little more capable and have integrated out of band management (in my case iDRAC).

When chatting with their support, I was told (after a hang on... let me check with someone moment), that the software would only work with i3-i7 CPUs. I know there is a difference, but how much of a difference is there that this software would not support Xeon CPUs? Is anyone using Geovision with Xeon CPUs?
