    • RE: Zip file attachment

I have also noticed that I don't really like the way Barracuda handles the file attachment blocking, in that if someone whitelists the email address, domain or IP, it overrides attachment blocking. For instance, the crypto ransomware love to use macro enabled office files and I have explicitly blocked them. But if the sender is somehow whitelisted, they will come right through and it is up to Trend and my application whitelisting GPO to prevent an infection.

I am going to have to contact them to see if there is a way to have 2 levels of blocking where you can say that certain attachments will never be allowed, despite whitelisting.

Unfortunately, we do allow zip (and other archive) files. We have on premises Exchange with Barracuda filtering in two levels then Trend Micro on the endpoints.

I see mention of SCCM in the article. Does this only apply to SCCM-related installs of WSUS?

This is exactly my thinking. Most use them interchangeably but I say cheap is poor quality and inexpensive deals with the price. Not to be confused with cost, which I would say includes perceived or actual value. 'Round and 'round we go.

    • RE: New Thermostat

I have had the 3M-50 for almost 4 years, which is pretty rudimentary in terms of features. It does, however, have a plugin for my vera lite, so I do like that. It uses the Radio Thermostat servers while you are not on your WiFi/network and there is a polling interval of 5 minutes, so there is a delay of up to 5 minutes in terms of interaction with it. They have a nice android app interface and widgets to add to your home screen. I would say my only real problem with it is that it is a little temperamental when detecting if you are on your WiFi network. Sometimes it takes several refreshes on the app to get it to detect. Sometimes, I have to close the app and reload.

That being said, I am looking at the Ecobee 3 with a couple of sensors. I did read about some issues with the thermostat generating too much heat and causing the thermostat's reported temp to be much higher than the ambient temp actually was. I don't know if that was resolved or limited to a specific batch.

I looked at the Nest and decided it wasn't for me. The adaptive schedule thing isn't that big of a deal for me. Also, at that time, the swing temp was either not adjustable or was not adjustable below ~2 degrees F. I like to roll with a .5 degree F swing temp so the thing turns on and off when it hits the temp I set.

A coworker just got the Sensi from Emerson and he likes it. It seems cool from what I can tell. It also has dual schedules, which is nice if you are like me and have a need for 2 schedules. Other than that, I don't know much else about it.

    • RE: You Cannot Virtualize That

I have had this same approach for some time. I can't imagine pulling the trigger on software with that type of requirement and it does lead me to believe that they are not actively developing and I would never have confidence in their ability to maintain/support the product, let alone grow with my organization's needs.

@fuznutz04 said in Best Dynamic DNS service for home:

I've had the same IP at home for the past like 8 months, and have whitelisted that IP on many client firewalls. Of course, I upgrade my router to a new firmware, reboot, and get a new IP. Shame on me for not using a DDNS service sooner.

What does everyone use for Dynamic DNS for their homes networks?

I used to have the same issue. I had all my services hosted in my network, and would rely on my unreliable Isp connection. I would normally use dyn.com to manage my name. That made it easier. But ultimately the best thing was when I moved my equipment into the DC. I have a static IP, and a much better Isp connection. I also use screenconnect to remote so any rules can be set based on my dc, and not my ever changing ip at home.

How much are you paying and what equipment are you housing in the DC?

      • Ubiquit for nearly everything.
      • Sophos if they demand UTM but don't have the resources for the good stuff.
      • Palo Alto if they really need edge security.

What would you consider "the good stuff" that you would use instead of Sophos UTM?

Why do you mean? There are many pieces to an UTM.

The FOSS pieces are readily available individually.

I understand that there are many pieces to a UTM. That is why I am asking what, specifically, SAM considers the good stuff? The good stuff could mean brand, technology type or both.

@scottalanmiller Nice to be missed! I have been quite busy with some projects and finally had some time to checkout what's happening. I just barely missed mangocon but did get a kick out of the related threads.

I was itching for another project, in addition to getting my email offsite. Then all of a sudden, MS delivers me another audit notice-Almost 2 years to the day. It is just as convoluted as ever! SMH.

    • RE: WordPress Hosting

I am currently using inmotionhosting for my personal wordpress site. For awhile, they were "upgrading" services what seemed every other week, which caused some downtime.

Our company was also using inmotionhosting.com for our wordpress-based websites and we went from VPS to dedicated server for 4 brand's sites over a matter of a few months and after about 2 years it just got to be a pain trying to get enough resources, so we switched to AWS a couple months ago.

As far as security, we are not a public company or one that needs to adhere to hippa etc. That being said, we don't want just anyone accessing the data so I am thinking client side encryption would be the way to go.
