      $600 worth of kaboom

As someone who has spent large sums on fireworks, that is not an insignificant amount of kaboom.

I've done family fireworks shows dropping ~$300 on stuff. Though I do not think I got any shells bigger than 2"

We had these crazy huge mortars this year, not like anything we had seen before. And some roman candles that felt like shooting a .38.

Haven't seen roman candles like that in ages.

I'm sure if we had looked closely, these would have said "do not hold in hand".

Who looks closely at warning labels these days?

No one, Natural Selection will take care of the rest.

We still haven't addressed the root cause of the issue. What will you do differently next time to make sure this doesn't happen?

I said this earlier in the thread:

      @WrCombs said in Huge Mistake:

      @scottalanmiller said in Huge Mistake:

If we were at someplace like Bridgewater, we'd take a moment to post mortem and talk about what actually went wrong...

For example... did the boss' change of plan cause you to rush or get flustered? If so, learning to recognize when that is happening to you and take a minute to breath, focus, and compose yourself can go a long way. Or simply being able to say "I can't handle a last minute change, this is when I make mistakes." Lots of people can't plan for something then change last minute, because if you are like me, certain steps are already verified or checked off in your brain that the new plan might not account for.

In the original plan there were safety measures, did the boss tell you to skip those, too? Or did you skip them by accident?

Was the boss' plan to format the drive meant to be done with both drives in there currently?

Did you let the system do its own format that is automatic, required, and would meet the boss' plan, or was the additional step an assumption that turned out to not be needed?

There's a lot to delve into to try to figure out where and when mistake(s) were made, and how to try to hedge against them in the future.

This is actually something I did on my lunch break.
Before reading it I Took inventory of what happened,
causes and how I can make sure the mistake doesn't happen again:
      here's what I found:
The change in plan caused me to shift my thinking which caused some confusion, Cause I had a gameplan with the idea of a backup already in mind.

I didn't stop and think about what I was doing prior to hitting enter. I followed the simple steps i put into my head: thinking that The drives on the FakeRAID Promise Card would come up as C: because that was the way it was before.
I rushed what I was doing, Possibly due to over confidence, of formatting a drive which I've seen done multiple times, but mostly with Removable USB drives (which I've done in the past so i thought " pshh Piece of Cake"

      So i found what I did wrong above;
My Biggest thing to do to make sure I don't do it again, is Slow down. Check everything 3 times before I even move forward with what I'm working on, and have a plan in place in the future for when we have to do this: Only put on drive on, make a back up of the drive and save it to a different drive.

So it's not a collision Domain because their Obsolete in wired networks due to switches -

I'm not sure what else could be causing the issue other than bad cabling/ Bad terminals/ Bad switches.
May be worth replacing the other bar switch and changing out the Cabling under the bar.

So start with the basics and see what you can track down. If you are getting congestion or bad switches / cabling, you'd expect to see it even with a ping. Ping from device to device and see if you ever get latency or drops. If not, likely it's not a networking thing.

Can you describe the freezing? Like if you do X which devices freeze. And if you do Y, these other devices freeze.

Only information I have is " when we're Busy, and we try to order items on the terminals they run slow and freeze up. then it comes back then it shows up. the delay is anywhere from 15 seconds to 2 minutes"
Nothing specific when it comes to what their doing on the terminals.

Any reason that there is a network suspicion then, why not suspect the server?

Cause it's the exact same image/setup as the other site they have, and the other site doesn't run slow what so ever.

Still, many times more likely to be a hard drive or something.

apparently, Our Des Moines Office did this setup , we did the other sites set up which would be inconsistent on our end. My boss is claiming that Their image was broken, and we fixed it in house before it went out to the site, which would mean, Scott, You're correct that it's a Server issue.

You know the saying to many hands in the cookie jar?
that's what seemed to happen here, so Now I gotta rethink this whole situation.

FFS the more information I get the more I just want to just leave this place.

But I'm still learning and Can't say that I'm understanding.

I have to ask the dumb question. How are tablets being connected to a wired network?

Access point on the firewall routed to the wired network.

      FFS, there is the issue.

I know you normally have a network dedicated to POS. That doesn't magically free up availability for the wifi network when things get busy. The wireless environment is probably clogged full when the place gets busy. That'll be your bottleneck.

FFS explain what you mean? Nothing you just said makes any sense to me.

The Tablet is Not Currently in Use.

You've been talking about the wired network, but the tablets that are having issues aren't even connected to it.

There's one tablet. the rest are Terminals hard wired just like a Desktop/laptop would be.

What's worse than someone who doesn't know anything about computers ?

Someone who doesn't know anything about computers but think they do.

yep.. Customer handed phone to a server, who then told me he has a degree in Computers (wouldn't tell me what degree) and that he did some stuff to their Back office PC and now the systems down.. but he couldn't tell me what he did... Finally got it fixed after Setting the Static IP back, and Uninstalling the antivirus he installed "because it's top teir." (no it wasn't, it was Norton)... Finished all of Cobra Kai over the weekend, LOL Now I have no idea what to watch on Netflix.

Just started Season 2 last night. Trying to slowwwwww watch it because I have nothing else either.

So far it is not do darn bad.

I liked it! I grew up watching reruns of the Karate Kid Movies (I'm young but not that young) so it was good to see the show.

I was a big fan too. Watched it in the theaters ( I am that old! ) and convinced my mom to let me take a karate class at the local community college (it was cheap).

I like the "memory" scenes and the blips from Johnny's childhood. Liking the backstory.

Pretty interesting, thats for sure, Used to watch them with my Grandpa, who then taught me karate and Judo in the backyard for a few years, It was free 😉

I like how Daniel uses the same teaching style as he was taught, and how The tables turned and Johnny was teaching the kid to protect himself (more or less)

Those twisties are pretty interesting. I especially liked Johnny's perspective from high school. It was Daniel being a PITA, starting a fight, keeping the feud going with the bathroom scene, and then taking his girl. Based on what we generally know about human nature, that fits perfectly.

      Yep!
2 sides to every story ! lol

This is really a question of what is the customer paying for. If they are paying for you (your employer) to handle everything for them then a site call isn't unrealistic.

If they are paying for some lower level of support then go to the site and have your sales team/account rep handle getting paid for the time and travel (of course email ahead to notify).

They pay for Over the Phone Support - That's it.
If we go on site, they have to put in writing they will pay us for the On Site Call-

5 mintues after this call, their GM called and got the internet working, then I remoted in and Fixed everything 2 minutes later.

Would have been 2.5 hours before I got to the site - and that amount of down time is not ideal for Restaurants.

@WrCombs Your work seems so odd to me, like your business acts like an MSP, but only for 1 product only.

Seems odd to not earn more money by managing everything like many MSPs.

Trust Me, I've explained to benefits of Pushing both POS and other products (such as Phones, internet, Manager Devices, etc.) and it falls on deaf ears.
I did however find another company similar to mine, but the owner is an old MCSE (i think that's what he said) holder and worked for an MSP before he started a POS business, and he does Phones, internet, manager devices, etc.. He and I have been Conversing recently

B] Provide end-user awareness training for office staff
C] Update all antivirus definitions on workstations and servers
D] Use biometrics and SSO for authentication

My first instinct D]Use biometrics and SSO for Authentication

The key words in the question is "most vulnerable attack vector" so IMHO, D] would incorrect.
