Is there any good reason to have a reverse mortgage? The only situation I can think of where it sort of makes sense is from a survival standpoint. I'm sure some older people have lost their spouse and may not be able to make payments and still afford to live. It looks really predatory on paper. I'm curious if I am missing something here

A reverse mortgage allows you to access the equity of your home, without having to move. It's usually marketed to older people who aren't working, but need money (and some place to live). Because selling your house for the cash and not having anywhere to live doesn't really work.

This is why retirement communities exist though. You sell your house and move into a much less expensive house.

It's very traumatizing for folks to move after being in the same home for so long. They raised their kids there, they broke bread together there, they had their highs and lows there, and so on.

Change is hard. It's even harder at that age.

A lot of peoples wealth is tied up in their home equity. If you willingly give it away you are trading equity in a home that continues to go up in value (lets assume you are in a good area) for currency that gets pounded by inflation. This contract is a snapshot.

You aren't giving away the equity, you're slowly selling the property while you live there until death or you actually sell it. Whatever you may sell the house for, off the top covers the reverse mortgage to pay that back and then any outstanding debts.

It can make sense, in some cases. Single-non working childless person who is near that age. Wants to live in their house and have helping hands or whatever come over to assist.

Yeah its just a very specific case where it makes sense. They market it like its not

Is there just no way to play these old games anymore?

Android. They are ALL available except the three I mentioned.

Well thats just sad, I don't want to play on my phone

Didn't say phone. Nvidia Shield is an Android gaming rig, for example. You can play Android on your TV.

Oh I see what your saying. Still wish it was available for pc on a console.

You could make a Retro Pi too. I have one and its fantastic. Two bluetooth controllers and probably 3k games from multiple consoles

This dude uses syncthing to synchronizing his files between each retro pi devices.

@Dashrender To be honest that's my next step is now to make some keys for my laptop, and see how and where they go 🙂
but my guess is in the same authorized_keys file on a separate line

      This is your friend.

      ssh-copy-id -i ~/.ssh/id_ed25519.pub user@ip

if you only have a single public key you can simplify it to

      ssh-copy-id user@ip

I specify because my desktop has a few different generated keys.

How does this fit into disaster recovery plans when you have many hundreds of ssh keys and a large IT team? If one person has 100 keys to various servers and their laptop dies, are you guys using a script to copy the keys per user? Also new user creation or deleting keys when someone leaves

Right? Everyone says it, but what exactly is that job?

You know how a lot of companies put "other duties as assigned" in your job description? That is the entire job

Currently Windows 10 RDP works incredibly well but trying to loan Gnome or Fedora has been much slower.

What is the point here. What are you "trying to learn" in a GUI?

You do not "learn" desktop environments. You simply use them. If your desktop environment requires a lot of education to use, it is shit and you need to choose another one.

      load, not learn. I typo'd

@Supreme_Overlord since the will probably be used for Steam games, check out the Steam controller. I got one (2nd one is a regular xbox wireless) and it has been pretty good. And it can go wired or wireless.

yeah these go on sale quite often so you might want to wait until you see it

It was discontinued in November of 2019.

What do we do now? The Steam controller is what made SO many games actually usable! Dammit. That was a literal game changer.

Yep they had a blow out sale in November. Then they announced they were clearing stock and cancelling un-shipped orders. There was rumor about a V2 coming out but nothing has materialized yet.

I totally forgot that happened. This was when they were selling steamlink for $1 right. I think all of it was on sale

If you're looking to learn about it, dconf is where you set the properties for GNOME 3. Tweak tool exposes a small number of these. Dconf-editor will give a gui tool to manage all of the settings or you can manage them through normal dump configs in /etc/dconf/db/ and then the database directory you want to manage.

Use the dump directories if you want to automate things like login messages, disabling the picker for usernames to force typing it in, disabling the power button without signing in, etc.

      Thanks
