@dave247 said in best way to map various combinations of mapped drives to AD users?:

I could probably use group policy to make a mapping for each drive, then assign each GPO to the necessary user.. but I feel like that would still be a little numerous or something.

Also, I know usually this sort of things is group based access, but we have a small company and many people wear multiple hats and essentially we end up with multiple combinations of access for every employee which makes group based permissions and things challenging.

I think you're halfway there. Yes, use GPO, but instead of assigning users to each GPO, create a group and assign the group to the GPO. Once everything is created, all you have to do for who gets what is add/remove users from the group for the drive mapping.

You mean make a group and apply each GPO for each drive to it, then add users? That makes sense.

      Yep

I mean, it's less waste at least.....

True but it is kinda flimsy. Good for oatmeal and soups so far. Haven't tried ice cream yet.

That's dangerous with any plasticware unless it's already half melted.

Had some good spoons for my wedding a few years ago. Those things help up against some hard ice cream and boiling water (cannot remember the brand). Whatever you do, DO NOT buy Amazon Basic plastic ware. They cannot handle the heat of soup. Felt like I was in The Matrix. "“Do not try and bend the spoon,...." I just tilted my head in amazement.

Good to know, most Amazon Basics items I've used have been great. My laptop/overnight Amazon Basics bag specifically is amazong.

Should have asked about VitalPBX or FreePBX, something you can pickup support with. Don't know why, but people like having support available, even tho that's what they are already paying us for!

MiTel, charging crazy prices for phone lines you don't need! Seriously, their pricing model makes them a joke at best.

Well - It's MiTel now... Likely Cisco in the future.

At least Cisco has features above and beyond most phone systems that can justify the price if needed, at least according to what @JaredBusch has said in the past.

      Yes - ServerS

For some reason the Vendor has setup a number of (Azure) servers to address printing. Sadly, it would seem that Printer NAMING is not the same across them.

While I am trying what I am able to do to argue this down to one - OUR PRIMARY - print server; is there any functionally practical way to correct the naming of each printer across the print servers without having to 'match and correct' on each?

FFS, good luck, that place sounds like a cluster

      no, dont have that either.

Then you're going to have a difficult time keeping anything dry in that basement.... Sorry.

A sump pump will work to drain water that gets to it, but if the water is coming in from all corners and not being directed to a single point (a basin) then you'll likely have issues forever.

I've eliminated low points around the foundation and built them back up to drain away from the house. and moved the downspouts a little higher off the ground to allow more drop to the run off.
All things that I hope will keep water out..

That's a good start, but if you've got a basement, you need a sump pump. If the ground against the foundation is wet, you will have water seeping into the basement. Which is why every house in Ohio has a basin and sump pump. I've changed more pumps than I want to think about.

HP has a solution called HP OneView which may do what I want, but I'm not certain.

      Do you have any recommendations?

What RMM is in place? Most of them have monitoring built in that you could use.

This is sad, but not surprising. You pay per core per month for Azure stack HCI (the replacement) according to what I found quick.

You aren't using a segmented network with firewall rules blocking incoming ports like RDP and SSH?

How does segmented networking affect the user permissions within Tactical. I get how it would segment the devices, but that does nothing for the RMM side. IE different teams of people to manage different equipment or resources.

He's saying if you segmented the network you wouldn't need to worry about those controls in the RMM at all.

So long as the clients have a connection to the controller, that's ALL an RMM tool cares about. Doesn't matter how many different networks the clients happen to be on or how well segmented the network is. He'd still need some way to manage who has access to certain groups of client systems.

Yeah I get that and @DustinB3403 and you are correct. As long as you manage assets together you could have this issue.

It's rare that workstations and serves are managed the same way using the same type of monitoring and controls. It's not something I've ever seen in my career, but I also haven't worked on Service Provider or consultant side.

Yeah, from the service provider side of things, servers and workstations are all managed from the same RMM.
