Or whatever 1980s, early 90s jargon file stuff people tried to recapture from the media. I am a total green hat, I will be as black or white hat as you pay me to be and I've been paid well to do really mundane shit over the years and sometimes fun stuff.

HA I love it Green Hat cause Ill do what you pay me for 🤣

That's right, everything, everything you want -> mildly NSFW

I fall somewhere in between... My house has mechanical locks and windows, no Smart Home Assistants (not counting phones). I do have a Nest Thermostat...

But I also have a gun and am ready to shoot things that talk and are not supposed to.

You wouldn't hear anything talking anyway. Because I'll hack your ears first.

      Huh? What did you say?

I think he said something about hacking William Randolph Hearst.

@siringo I think @JaredBusch is plenty beautiful, I know I had the image he kept posting of his ape-like chest blown up and put over my mantle. Truly not since Adam has perfection been moulded from clay.

Edit: I think this may be the most poetically stupid thing I've said in a while, I'm actually impressed with myself.

      ummmm.

Damn, looks like @JaredBusch has a lot of haters.

how do you keep yourself warm on a day when it's minus 30 with windchill of minus 46?
Does the electricity shut down/crash/collapse? How do you keep going? that's real survival first type stuff.

      Fireplace.

Not that cold, it'll cool the house rather than warming it.

That's news to me. Certainly a lot of heat is lost through it, but it may depend on how your whole thing is setup, including damper, how much air you can pull from the outside, and so on. The general, traditional idea is to have a huge hearth and chimney breast so that the bricks heat up and stay warm. In fact in the late medieval homes (well, the nice ones) they'd be so large they would weigh more than the entire house, but would also keep it fairly warm. Also other designs like the rumford-style help with heat and avoiding making it colder, but in certain situations I could see how it could make things worse. I imagine a lot of modern homes in the west especially because fireplaces are meant more to be for fanciness/style rather than function it could be the case.

Yes, most modern ones at least here have essentially no mass to them and are meant to not overheat the house. So they barely do a thing and mostly just force all the heat right out the top.

Yeah it'd be a different story if I was thinking about it in the context of some crappy thing like that. I'm glad I have a house though, an old one, so it does have several large fireplaces, but people in the 20th century apartment blocks typically have gas/oil water heated radiators. I guess heating oil shortages are sort of a relic of the economic crises of the early 90s but nevertheless I like being able to burn evidence as well as wood.

when do they think it may improve?

Siberia typically isn't all that cold anyway.

Sometimes. Well, I've lived through government collapses before so it ain't no thang.

There's a guy very similar to curtis in almost every way: asks questions, claims to know the answers already, and everyone is wrong, and not only that, but he's a total dickhead while doing it. I used to message people trying to help him to not bother. I wish I could remember his username, if it ever comes to me I'll post it here because he is weirdly rude out of nowhere.

Then there's other people who are just weirdly condescending for no reason, and just full of general idiocy trying to be masked as cleverness. Also these types of things are more common than they should be: ignoring the point, making some lame ass jokes about your abilities compared to their skyllz, and then accusing you of ignoring the point and acting like a moron.

Here's one example and I'm stressing the point in detail just because of how much of a braying jackass he is out of the gate: his biggest zing is repeatedly saying "no useful information" in response to, you guessed it, useful information, that or "no facts". It's baffling and confusing as it is stupid and immature. Not only that he didn't catch my point about Dunning-Kruger, that because he brought it up and thinks he's a genius by being condescending and rude like a mental patient, that it also applies to him as well: he thinks he's smarter than me, but he isn't, and I don't consider myself all that smart to begin with so he must be a real idiot.

How can I be sure he's not smarter than me? Because actual smart people don't feel the need to go around being condescending telling people they do not know, what information or skills they don't know or possess, what they can't do, and that they should stick to getting their A+ certs, and suggesting they're so damn skilled the other person was still in diapers while they were hacking the planet.
      https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/post/1691437

Edit: I decided to remove his name, since it was about 7 years ago maybe he's less of a total dickhead now, but I really doubt it, we'll see if he ever shows up here and acts like a condescending moron and ignores my points, yet again. I was just talking about people who make idiotic assumptions about what you do and what you can do and it always shows them to be about as clever as a toilet seat. In case he does show up, I went to preemptively say that my post contains no useful information, no facts, and I'm still in diapers studying A+ while he's swinging his big CCNA around.
