And that pay would also mean you couldn't travel as you'd never have enough saved up for the costs in the rest of the world.

Actually you could, quite easily, and people do. For one thing, the pay in Romania is 10x (yes, ACTUALLY 10x) higher than several of its neighbours. Romania is the highest income in the region. And cost effective travel in Europe is easy, this isn't the US. Sure, visiting the US is harder, but that's about it. Getting flights and trains from Bucharest are super cheap and go to tonnes of extremely affordable places. Travel only seems expensive because of how Americans do it (mostly due to distance and not being used to travel so not knowing how to do it effectively.)

And remember that Romanians get holidays, REAL holidays. So while you earn less, you work less. Your work days are shorter and you get lots of vacation time. So taking a trip doesn't require that you stop getting paid like it often does in the US.

Already heard that quite some ppl are working with just 10 days of vacations per year in the US. But they don't even get paid during this time?

Solved but not explained. That's okay though. If nobody can chime in about Terminals specifically then I'll just drop it. Wanted to at least pose the question.

Bought a MobaXterm license a few months ago. Multiprotocol and multisession client, like mRemoteNG.

Take a look if you like, there's a free version with just some minor restrictions like amount of stored sessions, a few locked advanced settings etc. Full or "Pro" version is $70 or so, bound to user. You're free to install it on all your (the licensed user) machines. On top, there's a portable version that can run from a share or USB drive for example.

Sorry, it is "Tschechische Republik" in German. Oddly, my spell checker didn't complain.

    • RE: Moving files en-masse to Sharepoint

@Danp said in Moving files en-masse to Sharepoint:

I have an old file server (2003 VM) that I would like to eliminate for obvious reasons. We moved the O365 for email last year, and I have recently starting moving some of the file from the network drive to the document library. Through trial and error, I've found that you can't copy a whole folder of files by dragging the folder to the browser window. As an alternative, I've been opening the site in an Explorer window (must be done with IE as the browser).

I've been able to move folders / files using this method, but I believe that I've found an issue in hindsight. Some of the files that were copied / moved are showing zero bytes and I've confirmed that they are empty.

A quick search turned up this link, but its from 3+ years ago.

Has anyone run into this issue?

Yepp, mass file ops are a bit buggy, at least in 2010. Maybe due to WebDAV behind the scenes.

Used a PowerShell script to upload and verify each file. Slow but worked as expected.

@MattSpeller use Google Street View. Drive through Prague for example. Those "commies" know how to build wonderful places.

I wouldn't consider this job unless it's $150,000+ but not sure if it would be or not. Why do they not list the pay?

$150K, for a junior, in Romania? Are you kidding? Even Manhattan doesn't pay that for a junior position. Remember you can buy a farm here for $16K.

That's the point. Living costs are peanuts compared to Germany, UK, US etc. And Salary is virtually always proportional to living costs.

Always the same... Pay peanuts, get monkeys. Would love to see companies to state at least some minimum or maximum salary. Would save a lot of time on both sides.

@scottalanmiller great city and a lot of culture, no question.
But a junior position in eastern Europe... Salary probably isn't that great.

Anyway, for sure a good opportunity to learn something.

Ever realized that quite some of your postings are about eating and drinking? 😉

Are there posts about something else?

Actually... No, at least nothing worth to speak about.

Had a great burger and a baked potatoe today. Need to convince my wife sometime soon to prepare some https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labskaus . Without fish.

    • RE: Survey Monkey - Reporting Options and Ideas?

@garak0410 oh dear, I know that 😉 We're using sharepoint a lot, but I have to keep telling my colleagues over and over again that it is a quite impossible to be the only embedded, networking and backend dev, the only admin guy and on top a sharepoint guru at the same time 😉 So yepp, I'm also a one man show.

Anyway, if you know some HTML, JS and CSS, you could build something on the client side. C# on the server side is another option. Like I said, it's not impossible.

Don't know about SPO but a simple webpart (plug-in) may do what you want.

There are loads of free charting libraries available, both for server and client side rendering. I do understand that you are not a dev, but this shouldn't be too hard.

So yes, would do this in SP.

@BBigford Really don't want to disturb your monolog, but there's a password only auth option in some servers and clients. Maybe your client or server doesn't implement that very well. Have you tried something like good old TightVNC on the client side?

Uhm, sorry to hear. Good luck on your next gig.

Something like that can't happen here in Germany. 3 to 6 months to the end of the quarter, except you are stealing something... Heard things are similar in the UK and other European countries.
