Haha, that's what I've been using 🙂 You can't script restores with the free version.
      Thanks for the help.

      hello.

i'm looking for a windows based (or anything that can be used easily by a non linuxite) FREE imaging app that can perform restores via a script / command line.

I have to reimage 50 new PCs.

in the past i've used free gui based apps, booted up, clicked here and there and the job was done. But i'm getting lazy and would just like to be able to boot up, click on script and walk away.

I could afford up to 10 bucks if the right thing can be found.

      thanks everyone.

      You try MDT?

No I haven't. I need something that doesn't need a network. Thanks for the help.

It's not windows based - but Clonzilla does what you want, and you can figure out the script/command line for it too.

Does clonezilla run off a usb stick?? I need something that doesn't require a network.

what a darn shaky day on the roads yesterday.
started to move out from behind a van, had had a good look up the road before hand, nothing there, stuck me head out, whoa, a bloody 4WD coming at me.
coming home, had a DH tailgate me at 100kmh/60mph most of the way home on roads with no one else on 'em. this person had a real problem with space and distance, just irrationally close.
i slowed down and let 'em pass, then i did something im not proud of, but was so pissed off.
i got the jack handle ready at the T intersection we both had to stop at just in case.
I just cannot stomach tailgaters, the action makes no sense. if you can see you're coming up on someone, plan your move so you spend as little time behind them as possible. don't come up behind and just wait there hoping this guy will speed up.

    • Problem with USB boot disk??

      Hello,

I’ve created a Macrium rescue boot USB stick for imaging with.

The stick has a 1GB FAT32 partition and a 100GB NTFS storage partition.

All devices boot up off the stick, but on older laptops, the device doesn’t see the 100GB partition, but on newer devices it does.

On the older laptops, I’ve tried with UEFI and Legacy set, but that made no difference.

The stick is setup using MBR not GPT.

      What am I missing here???

      Thanks for any help.

it's finally hit. a local town that up to this point had only about 4 cases of the big C has gone from 1 to 18 in 3 days.

They're shipping the real sick ones off to a hospital 3 hours away. that's where i'd end up. stuff that, i'm working remotely for a few days.

All the best in your attempts to avoid it!
We're going to get smashed when our borders open up.

Yep. All you can do is look after you & yours.

Thing I don't understand, NSW cases dropped from 1000+ to 200+ when they hit 80% but in Vic we're still up in the 1000+ range, it's barely dropped. Don't understand that at all?

I was thinking about this last night. Is there anything you could do with QR codes or similar. Issue a card per device. They swipe/flash the card to log on and the same to log off.

TLDR, but whatever you end up doing, you'll need to make it very easy for the users, otherwise they'll just end up sharing passwords coz that'll be easier and faster.

You somehow need to make the users responsible for their actions, that's the only way you'll get compliance from them.

    • RE: Air Gap Backups

couldn't you just backup to something that can be shutdown by the backup app once the backup is complete?

then just add powering the device back up as one of the daily tasks to be undertaken by the sysadmins or whoever.

you used to be able to get those 'cassette' drives which were just disks in a casing that were used in a similar way to tapes. maybe there's something similar to that with a capacity of 1TB+ ?

if you work in a 24x7 centre maybe you can get one of the night sysadmins to just unplug the backup medium once the job is complete?

i did that years ago at a place that had mainframe admins 24x7, they just added it to their nightly tasks.

@gjacobse i do alot of that sort of work. Living in the bush, no one wants to come and fix things, so I have a go myself. Fixed a few washing machines, dishwashers. Done some mains cabling, dug trenches and run cable through the ground.
