      @black3dynamite

Interesting. I am trying to figure it out at the moment. It has something to do with the meshagent.update.exe getting stuck.

      From C:\Program Files\Mesh Agent\MeshAgent.log file.

      [2021-01-12 07:10:45 AM] SelfUpdate -> Checking Updater Version on: C:\Program Files\Mesh Agent\MeshAgent.update.exe , C:\Program Files\Mesh Agent\MeshAgent.exe[2021-01-12 07:10:45 AM] SelfUpdate -> UpdaterVersion_ERROR: child_process.execFile(): Could not exec [C:Program FilesMesh AgentMeshAgent.update.exe]

Followed by a bunch of these:

FYI, Do not update to the current version (0.7.47) of Meshcentral today. Its having issues. About 90% of my systems cannot connect back.

EDIT: Actually it is the Windows machines having issues. Linux machines are fine.

Just had KPMG reach out about a position. And it turns out that they do contract to hire for director level positions.

I can actually understand this as it goes along with much of the short term mentality bleeds into other areas.

If many individuals want to "job hop" (lack of better term) every two years or so, why not contract????

Not saying it will work out but KPMG thinks its worth a shot.

Coronavirus spreads to Antarctic research station

Coronavirus has reached the Antarctic continent, which had so far been free of Covid-19.
The Chilean army has reported 36 cases at its Bernardo O'Higgins research station on the Antarctic Peninsula. The 36, 26 of whom are military personnel and 10 maintenance workers, have been evacuated to Chile. The news comes just days after Chile's navy confirmed three cases on a ship which had taken supplies and personnel to the research station. The news means that Covid cases have now been recorded on all seven continents. The Sargento Aldea arrived at the research station on 27 November and sailed back to Chile on 10 December. Three of its crew tested positive upon their return to the Chilean naval base in Talcahuano.

Wow... can't even keep the penguins safe. . . Humans SUCK!

Definitely on occasion. Pretty miraculous also.

Just in case anyone needs this info.
I buy all my fiber related stuff from fs.com

      2nd fs.com

Great place to get SFP+ cables for whatever switch you need. Plus about 1/2 the price as OEM.

    • RE: Proxmox pricing

I seem to be missing something. With the pricing structure above, it seems to make more sense to stick with Hyper-V and the numerous other backup software products on the market at cheaper price points.

If in an SMB with fewer than 10 VM's, Hyper-V with Veeam Free could be a better, lower priced solution...

If going a little larger, while not every feature is available, Vmware ESXi essentials starts to look similar in pricing.

@pmoncho watch that youtube video I posted if you wanted to do something on the cheap to get through the winter.

That was pretty cool. Based on the layout of my basement, I don't have a place to properly setup the dish. Although the small dish maybe doable.

Yeah I wouldn't do a large setup like he did. If I did this, I would make a smaller one, to add the feels if you know, without all of the crazy expense.

The LED he used for the large build is almost $500.

Holy cow! It did seem like an expensive setup and could be slimmed down.

@pmoncho newer sunlight's have a no-break seal/membrane that gets installed around them too. So even bad installers can't really screw them up unless they try.

You'd have to take a look at the different options.

Thanks for the info. I have not looked in about 7 years but will take another look. Its either a sunlight or recessed lighting. Much rather have the sunlight though with less recessed lighting.

@pmoncho Yup, it's in the attic. Having some skylights helps a lot.

Keep thinking about putting those in my kitchen but the many people I have spoke with always mention how they leak after 5-7 years. I have enough roof problems. 🙂

Our house had skylights installed in the 90's.
We moved in 4.5 years ago and they do not leak yet.

Dang. Nice to know there are some builders/installers that can put in a quality product correctly.

Another issue I have is my attic runs the length of my house so I would have to fashion some type of insulated duct work to reflect the light (only about 3'). Most of the house is dim except for the living room.

Desktop with 2 27" monitors at work
Dell personal laptop with docking station, personal mouse with 1 personal 27" monitor and 1 work provided 27" monitor. I like having three screens. All sits on 6' X 30" folding card table from WalMart. Works well but my lighting the basement sucks.

I currently remote into work pc. In a pinch, I can directly access work related systems through SSL-VPN but it can be slow at times. I do connect directly to my work lab using an old SSL-VPN and with it being a lab, doesn't need speed.

Also no need to drill holes. Just crush the 8 legged BIOS chip on any drive made in about the last 12 years and it's unrecoverable. Normally marked U12 on the board. If that chip isn't there, no one is getting any data.

So no need to open the drive, remove the platters, scratch both sides to hell with a screwdriver, then bend them in half?

That is basically what I have been doing.

LOL, nope. Unless that's fun for you!?!

The first few were about 10 years ago, but that fun is done. Now its just a PITA, but with HIPAA and all, I figured better safe than sorry...

There are no other network issues and this problem just seems to occur every so often. Sometimes its multiple times a day for a few days, then its all good for a week. I just wanted to know if there is some good solution I'm not aware of.

Reboot the server every night. Or force a restart of the file server service on it (aka server). It will release all locks. And people can still save their work if they have something open.

Kind of a good idea anyway 🙂

Ug, it might be on the surface - but if you have users who leave things open all the time, this would wreak havoc on them.

I'd be highly against this unless you several things in place - a policy fully backed by top brass at your company that all files are closed at the end of the business day. Not just - yeah, that sounds like a good idea - but will actively slap down any complainers against this policy.

I find top brass being the major part of the problem with open files.
