I am in. Let me talk to a friend of mine. He would be in as well most likely.

RE: Live Streaming of Conference?
Would we also get a recording of the event? I would buy it if I can get a recording of the lecture series so I have it to refer back to. I am really interested in Jared's VOIP demos.

We've done that. Wall flush mounts work great.
I have done it as well with good results.

The things you listen are not necessarily because of IT. Other professions could do this to a business as well. This is just a moral issue related to the person not the profession. Because IT can make this easy to do, it attracts that type of person.
Absolutely, 100% agree. But IT I think has loads more opportunity for this... much because IT has access to things and because IT is too confusing for most businesses to oversee and they just hope for the best, which makes a market ripe to be taken advantage of and attracts people interested in taking advantage of it.
It really is with jobs that give a lot of power, law enforcement, politicians, government bureaucrats, and now IT will attract bad people because of the power that is inherit in the position. I was a prison guard for the state of Missouri, I was the evening shift supervisor of the supermax unit at the prison I worked at. I saw it with officers who come in fresh and drunk on their power. I got some of them fired because they were going to get people hurt.

RE: Monitoring Systems
@scottalanmiller what's the difference between the two?
-
Monitoring Systems
I have heard and read up on several monitoring systems. Zabbix, Nagios (including FAN), prtg, munin, etc. I have never been the one to set one up. So guess what I am now in that position. I will have three Citrix XenServer hosts to monitor and various Linux VMs of all ilk to monitor. Plus Ubiquiti networking gear. What is the best system to learn and use? I know this maybe somewhat subjective but I really don't know the strengths and weaknesses of these platforms other than what I have googled and read but I am looking for advice from people who have used these.

RE: Firewalls, the good, the bad, and the ugly.
@Tim_G Give me a Sonicwall device and I will take it to my gun range for target practice. That's all they are good for. ESPECIALLY after Dell bought them. Sonicwall is awful. Nothing but issues.

RE: Korora 25 Cinnamon: watercooled workstation build
@BBigford Lightworks and Openshot are the two I see talked about mostly. Lightworks is supposed to be very very good, top of the line video editing software. Openshot is from what I saw, and I have used Openshot, a good basic video editor, however in Korora I had it crash on me enough that I went to Lightworks.

Also, if you're just staying in Illinois because of the booze, Michigan has WAY better beer and is just across the Lake. You could literally stop in damn near any small town throughout the state and find a decent brewery.
Even if you only consider Three Floyd's brewery in Munster, Indiana has way better beer than Illinois. If you also throw in Upland's wheat they win hands down.
And, well, Wisconsin has always been superior to Illinois in booze and alcoholics.
I can't think of a good reason to move to Iowa, Misery, or any other state to the South...
Screw Chicago, I am from Southern Illinois, damn arrogant bastards up north. If you really want my opinion.......

Illinois has plenty of f***ed up problems, but buying alcohol is not one of them. screw all you people I guess I will stay here.
I agree with you Jared. I am going to stay in my Illinois(remember kids there is no noise in Illinois, the s is silent). Our roads might crumble (all construction on roads is coming to a stop if no budget is passed by June 30 which there won't be http://www.bnd.com/news/local/article85091162.html). Before that announcement IDOT was out on TV and radio stations warning that with the upcoming summer heat that roads might buckle and drivers need to be aware of this, I told my wife that is IDOTs way of saying we ain't fixing S#!T drive at your own risk. We are seriously close to bankruptcy (http://www.cbsnews.com/news/could-illinois-be-the-first-state-to-file-for-bankruptcy/). However we can get all the liquor we need or want, right now we need a lot.

If you want to go deep I recommend any of Thomas Sowell books. My favorite was A Conflict of Visions: The Ideological Origins of Political Struggles, revised edition. Here is a listing of his books:

RE: What would you recommend for a cloud based patch management solution for Windows/Mac/Linux?
I use Comodo one to do this for my clients. It has a patch management feature.
