RE: I grabbed an Android TV box...
My son wanted a switch so that is what I got him. I am divorced from his mother and the switch allows him to transport his gaming system easier than other systems. Also one of the first games he wanted was Mario Odyessy, so he wasn't going after nostalgia when he bought that game. Also, the Mario Kart games are good fun games to play with the family. The new Zelda game is fun as well.

RE: Ubiquiti Unifi APs - Do You Need a Controller?
I bet if you ask around you can find someone with an old Core 2 Duo machine lying around somewhere and they will give it to you. Take it, install Debain on it, and then install the controller. Configure the APs. You can then shut down the controller and store the computer away until you need to do something, like add an AP or update the firmware.
Edit: I have a store near me called EPC, and they sell recycle older PCs. I think you can pick up something from them for $25 bucks. You might look for a similar store near you if nothing else.

@scottalanmiller Just like the Nintendo Switch. It didn’t even come with a game. Also, for an extra controller it’s like $80 after tax. My daughter’s uncle got it for her for Christmas. I’m betting she’ll play with the Android box more as soon as it comes in.
Oh yeah. Everything since the N64 has been garbage based completely around gimmicks. Wii and WiiU were so awful. The Switch is just the guts of an Nvidia Shield in a lower quality container at double the price.
And the Shield is already quite old.
Nintendo is lucky their name still carries so much weight. If any of those systems were designed by any company other than Nintendo, they'd be another Sega Saturn or jaguar 64.
Nintendo just has so many fanboys and they are quite good with making fun games. Their niche is really software not hardware anymore.
It is always about the software, even for the iPhone, Pixel phones, xbox, Playstation, etc. It is the software that really drives it. You can have the best hardware but if you have crappy software to put on it, the hardware is then perceived to be crappy as well.
Yeah that is true. I meant to say games. Of course nostalgia has a lot to do with their success. I wonder how much the same games would make without Mario branding.
My guess is that they'd make nothing at all. If it wasn't for the branding, Nintendo makes poorly rates $.49 Steam sale games.
I think they make some fun newer games, but a lot of them aren't original or have good graphics. The gameplay is fun and can be addictive in some games. There are others like Mario sunshine or Luigi's mansion and just say wtf. Those games are really popular for whatever reason though.
Same reason that all those cheezy apps advertise on television. The casual gamer market has exploded. Nintendo is THE system for people who don't like games. They make the kind of stuff that celebrities advertise on annoying push ads. Candy Crush and stuff like that.
To say that Nintendo Console owners, I have owned almost every Nintendo console just to be transparent, are not "TRUE" gamers is a really snobbish thing to say. Each Nintendo console has given me hours of gaming fun. Just because they are not the "true games" you like doesn't mean anything. To say that Nintendo caters to a different type of gamer, would be an accurate statement.

California Dispensaries can legally sell recreational marijuana starting tomorrow. Good for California.
Yeah, too bad smoking anything into your lungs is bad... smoke itself is... and yes, I know better than cigarettes, but it's all just different degrees of bad or harmfulness. One is worse than the other, but both are bad period.
If you want the health benefits of marijuana, but not the harm or damage from smoke, well... I'm sure there's some healthy baked goods recipes out there ^_^
Still illegal to smoke in public. But edibles seem to be ok.
Glad to hear that - now if they made smoking anything in public illegal.
It's getting closer. At least in CA.
You should see how it is in Sweden... I swear if you dropped someone off in the city who didn't know WHEN it was, they'd think it was 80's or 90's the way everyone is smoking like crazy.
oh, the whole of the US is way ahead of much of Europe, at least the parts I visited.
Panama is the best.... tobacco free country!
My wife and stepson have asthma. Before we got our house we lived next to chain smokers in an apartment building and when it got cold our apartment smelled of cigarette smoke, and it would cause their asthma to get worse. If my wife or stepson got any type of lung illness, pneumonia, bronchitis, etc. We would go live with my parents for a couple of weeks to help them get over it because it just was harder for them to do with the amount of smoke coming from our neighbors. I think they had like 5 people living there who all chained smoked. So we will have to put Panama on our vacation list now.

RE: Sentio, an Android Laptop Dock
As a laptop configuration, I don't see much value in it because at the price they are offering a Chromebook would be a lot better. Now if they had a small dock that would hook up to two external monitors and a regular keyboard or mouse. I might then be interested.

@wirestyle22 well sure. . .
But I would also assume they have laws to protect the community and punish people that do such things. Thus the child doesn't need to take care of their pedobear parents.
It's a tough thing to prove. And what about parent abandonment, a major issue in a lot of countries. BBC ran a headline article about the problems with the abandoned children of priests just yesterday.
You are right it goes both ways. What this really proves is that there will always be assholes in the world. Abandoning a child just breaks my heart. So does the abandonment of parents. My wife works in a nursing home. She and the other staff always make sure every resident gets a Christmas present. Some of them get no visitors during the holidays or any other time.

@irj Clonezilla includes a server in recent versions. I haven't used it in server mode myself yet, but that may be worth looking at.
Linux box with a samba share to upload the base image to, could easily be a raspberry pi with a larger USB drive attached, and then boot the machines to Clonzilla via an USB/CD wouldn't be that bad for the number of machines he referred to.

@scottalanmiller I love when you said , "It's the CEO's network, the CEO's company. " I've met some people who have a power struggle about it.
It's a VERY common failing in IT to feel a sense of "ownership" of a network; instead of realizing that we just help to maintain other peoples' networks.
I think it is because in IT we invest so much work into things that when someone wants to do something that would affect the infrastructure we have put in place, we in IT can see it as an attack on ourselves at times. It is especially hard when you have something that when you are done you are extremely proud of because of how much hard work and time we put into it. It is hard to step back from that.

No WiFi on the board? Useless.
Huh ? the RK3399 is the CPU SOC just like with Intel and AMD, you usually dont have WiFi inside the CHIP.
I said on the board. not the chip. No shit, there is no WiFi in the SOC.
That said, you really should not care about build in WiFi, cause you can use an WiFi USB, and find one with good chip like this:
The point of buying a board based system is to not have everything hanging off of it. If there is no WiFi and Bluetooth, just don't bother.
I have to agree with Jared on this one. Once Raspberry PI started to incorporate the WiFi onto the board it was awesome. I looked at ODROID but the issue here is the cost. I mean I can do what I need to do with a Raspberry PI at a much cheaper cost. In the right scenario, ODRIOD would be the right choice. For myself, I don't see that happening, because once you have the ODROID all setup you could step up to a much better system for not that much more money.

I don't like laser printers. Call me old fashioned idc.
A simple HP ink jet all-in-one, with HP Instant Ink works so well for us, and has been for last bunch of years. And we're not very light with the page count, 50-100 pages a month if not more.
Doesn't that make you new-fashioned? Lasers are the old tech. Unless you are talking daisy wheel or dot matrix.
Of course I'm talking dot matrix... why would you use anything else?
That was my first printer.
9 pin Epson Dot Matix Printer was my first printer. How I miss those days.

Speaking of IKEA, Rochester is supposed to be getting an IKEA store.
Which is fucking exciting.
How the hell do you get one, and Omaha doesn't. How many people there?
Because Omaha. . . lol
We have Buffalo up here and Syracuse as well, which will get more people to drive to Rochester.
Yeah, Rochester is bigger and richer than Omaha. And Omaha is isolated, but Rochester has a larger metro just one hour away on one side, and a smaller metro less than two hours away on the other. It's actually a really smart location. Will service about 3.5 million people
St. Louis has had one for a couple of years now. It too has about 3.5 Million people in the entire metropolitan area and they placed it almost dead center in the area so anyone can get to it easily. My wife is from Omaha, and I totally get why you guys don't have one. Your population is so small but yet I have never seen sprawl like I have in Omaha, it is endless suburbs. It is so damn depressing. You have a problem when someone from St. Louis, MO tells you that your town is depressing.

Ubiquiti Access Points question
Have any of you used the "Allow meshing from other access points". See the picture below. What are the advantages or disadvantage of this? All access points are hardwired and there are plenty of access points for coverage, so I am thinking that we don't need this.

Don't forget to post after the drugs start wearing off. Everybody likes making fun of folks high on anesthetics.
No problem, however, I do a fine job of making an ass of myself without any medication.

Actually, goat is really good as well. I do love some fresh Venison, elk, buffalo, alligator, snake, squirrel, rabbit. I didn't care for dog, cat or opossum. I guess vegetarian dishes are okay.
