In addition to having an HR policy regarding this, Windows makes it easy to enforce your access policy off hours. Every user account has a 'log onto' and 'logon hours' parameter where you can limit user access to specific devices, or to specific hours of the day. In exchange you can deny pop/imap/owa/activesync/mapi, whatever is required by your policy to adhere to it.

HP Spectre laptops. Great stuff mostly
Have one user that uses one of these daily. He is the main sales guy here. I really like this laptop.
Another user brought her personal Spectre in today for setting up a vpn connection. Still really like it, but that trackpad is atrocious. If your hands are larger than a cute kitten's paw good luck typing anything on the kb without touching the trackpad and moving the focus to some random part of the screen. There is also a bit too much vertical travel when trying to press the buttons in the trackpad. -
RE: Seperate VM's or one to rule them all?
Set up here is just about 1 vm per service if running Linux. Jira, pydio, openvpn stuff, wordpress nextcloud(testing) XO, Unitrends, other web services those are all separate vms.
On Windows we do 1 as well, or more if it is easy. But I think file and print and wsus on 1 vm might be the only multiple service server we have. CRM, ADFS, Exchange, AD, Sharepoint are single service vms though, for obvious reasons. So by far most vms running 1 service here. Just makes it easier. -

RE: What's good for a workstation these days?
Full size atx board and case at home. ten hdd bays, ten usb ports in back 4 on top. 2 esata, 1 spdif, 1 digital coax. More available usb headers if I wanted to go nuts. 3pcix16 slots. At work obviously don't do that though. We have a few of these
HP 110-500 Desktop
I didn't buy them.
the first time I picked one up I thought it was an empty case. The board is smaller than micro, some proprietary hp stuff outsourced to whoever makes the boards, and takes up about 25% of the area of the side of the case. Powersupply is an external brick that uses less than 50W max. They also suck as computers. -
RE: Verizon blocking port 465 to godaddy?
Looks like someone's mail server doesnt support the version of ssl/tls you are trying to connect with.
http://www.checktls.com/index.html - i suspect godaddy doesnt support the ssl/tls youre using(if at all), and verizon does. Perhaps they require tls/ssl connections now and if godaddy doesnt support ssl/tls, no mail can be sent between the two.
Had a similar problem at last job; we required tls/ssl for SEC reasons, couldnt send email to hotmail and a few other email providers(wasnt supported by them at the time) -

@Mike-Davis That is an actual town? Had no idea.

RE: Overheating NICs in SuperMicro on FreeBSD
It could just be a problem with reporting, and not actually be that hot. I hope. Cuz 115 is melty time.

RE: Overheating NICs in SuperMicro on FreeBSD
Dang that is crazy. Could possibly find the chips on the mobo or card and put a heat spreader on it, like the ones they use for video card ram.

@scottalanmiller
It is cheaper. You cant dvr anything and cant skip commercials and pausing live tv is limited. And it is only cheaper if youre a new customer. It is what they did to 'help consumers' so their merger would get approved. -

Let me add another one then: we just released a Windows Mobile app. Community FTW, this was done by a volunteer!
Wow that is great. As the last WP user in the world, thank you for doing this.

Removing sidebar on technet...
How to get rid of this sidebar that blocks all relevant info on technet pages.
That one on the right, it just gets in the way of reading. Yes i know im supposed to use the anchor button and fiddle around with printing it to pdf according to ms, but i just want to red this webpage, not fiddle around with whatever halfassed thing ms is doing to technet.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
I found this program that will convert doc files to docx, then to pdf. Even works on the pw protected files, it just pops up a pw prompt. So i let it run and every few minutes check to see if i have to enter teh pw in. all the pw for the docs are the same and it was put there to make it harder to mess up the doc. Some of these docs are 20 years old.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Converting 10k+ old doc files(some are word 95 format!) to pdf. Some with password protection. Ugh.
