@tim_g that's interesting and guess it means my question was more complex than I knew

RE: Software and Hardware Raid
@scottalanmiller why is raid dead in the enterprise?
Why do hyper-v and esxi need hardware controllers?

RE: Software and Hardware Raid
@dashrender I think I will setup a desktop and do some testing myself. I was originally curious if there was a consensus but I think it's pretty obvious there is not.
I think I will now setup raid on a desktop

RE: Software and Hardware Raid
@dashrender not too much. I got 1 workstation at work that someone else setup a long time ago

RE: Software and Hardware Raid
@scottalanmiller interesting post, thanks. So in the enterprise which is mostly Linux then it's mostly software raid?
If your on a desktop then hardware if your using windows and personal preference if your on a Linux desktop?

RE: Software and Hardware Raid
@scottalanmiller this is a little confusing. Are you saying I would get better performance from software raid? I would have thought performance would be better with hardware raid.

RE: Software and Hardware Raid
@scottalanmiller I bet I can guess which is which

Software and Hardware Raid
Ok it will be obvious I am a bit out of the loop on this but I had a couple questions if anyone had input they would like to share.
- How good is software raid today?
- Is there much of a difference between Windows and Linux software raid?
- Is there a consensus on hardware controllers?
- If you did not mind buying hardware then would you just do that every time and not worry about software?
I do not have a particular use case here and I do not have a build in mind. I am just looking for info and thoughts in a general sense so i will take whatever you got. Thanks in advance!

@zachary715 Thanks for the ideas I will check those out

RE: Notorious Short-seller labels Ubiquiti Networks $UBNT as FRAUD
@scottalanmiller For the the fun part is researching companies and finding out about cool things they do or have done in the past.
I never used the term "divesting" but i see its value. I just asked about good sources so that I could know a bit more things that are going on. I know about index funds but I want to be more involved.

RE: Notorious Short-seller labels Ubiquiti Networks $UBNT as FRAUD
@storageninja I get that. All good ideas.I have thought about the Index funds and that option seems decent. I do enjoy the fun of researching companies and buying a few shares of stocks too. I have never lost money over a years time but dont make much either. Depending on the year its like 5-15% increase. Not sure if that keeps up with inflation at the low end lol.

RE: Preferred WAF for your website
@nashbrydges I use Cloudflare. I have been fairly happy with it. Wish I understood what all of their non-obvious modules do but its probably in the documentation which I don't have time to look at so not their fault.

RE: Spiceworks - Maintenance records
@wls-itguy Lots of different ways to do this. The last thing I saw was using Google forms to do it. It would work nice.

RE: Notorious Short-seller labels Ubiquiti Networks $UBNT as FRAUD
@scottalanmiller I do a little bit of investing. Nothing too outrageous, just to diversify some of my savings.

RE: E-mail and file storage services for Non-Profit entities

RE: Notorious Short-seller labels Ubiquiti Networks $UBNT as FRAUD
I know nothing about the finance industry. What are a few options worth looking at to get good info?

RE: Notorious Short-seller labels Ubiquiti Networks $UBNT as FRAUD
Yeah its just a shame I didnt have any money available to put into Ubiquity when they dropped. Could have got some slightly cheaper stock. I am not worried about any of these allegations.
