    • RE: Home Lab NAS

This is something I worked on for a while,.. I had a 1U server I could use, but it only had slots for 2 drives.... something I thought was 'risky'.

I looked at getting a heavier box something that could take up to 8 drives,.. but boiled things down to getting a ReadyNAS 314, 4 bay with 2TB drives.

IT's been running fine, have a few shares on it,.. permissions and attached a 1TB external USB drive as well (already had).

Small form factor and serious lack of ambient noise makes for the win...

ETA: I credit research and speaking with @scottalanmiller and ML for insight on it.

Did a quick search for the Unbt Unifi Discovery tool and found that there is a Google Chrome Extension. Installed that and found the devices. Sadly though, not able to sign into them So they will need to be hard reset I believe to call home and pick up the config.

A small test capture I had to do since it's not compatible with the pcapng format that I had on hand.

I think I like Wireshark better.

Interesting - pcap seems to be a standard - not sure why you would build something that can't import what so many already use.

    • Windows Update Error 0x800B0100

New system running Windows 7 Pro, is now failing to complete updates with this error:

Error 0x800B0100 when you try to install Windows Updates or Microsoft Updates

I tried this, only to get a error on installing the Fix.

Then search for Windows 7 update Fix, and found

How do I reset Windows Update components?

downloaded the fix, and ran it,.. seemed to find and resolve some items, but when running the updates, still get a failed.

There are nine important and four suggested. It won't install the any combination of the updates.

All this just to fix Outlook so it will connect to Office 365.

Are there any other suggestions for fixing the update - while I continue to search for a fix.

Nice find @Mike-Davis, I'll have a look at that the next time I get this issue.
I've been getting it a bit recently, not regularly but enough to "sigh, not again" .

I've been doing is a slash & burn approach, which has worked but not 100% AFAIK as the issue has returned to a couple of users.

      (With Outlook closed)

      • Control panel --> mail --> delete mail profile
      • Delete everything under C:\Users$user\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook (some may prefer to simply tack .OLD onto the end of the users .OST file for safe keeping... [email protected])
      • Control panel --> mail --> create mail profile
      • Open Outlook

Also, in some cases, I've run a repair on the users installation of Office.

Done most of that,... in some fashion.

My next idea is to nuke the (MS Surface) and reload it.

I've amassed a collection of old UPS batteries. (And some laptop batteries as well.)

Anyone have any ideas on where to take them, preferably at no cost? Or if at a cost, preferably low?

Some places like Batteries + May give you a credit on new batteries. I know that the local place here in KY gave me something per pound of batteries,..

Laptop batteries can be shipped to me for disposal.. I take them apart and use the cells in other projects.

I have about 40 18650 cells from doing this.
