Researching some brine recipes for smoked trout... when my neighbor (who is a chef) asked me if I wanted to smoke some trout this weekend, my reply was an emphatic "HELLZ YEAH!!!!"

Sounds like a sweet plan for the weekend. I need to de-winter my smoker (electric) so it can get ready to smoke some cheese. I am not sure if I'll add the cold smoker pot or frankenstein one....I have just about all I need,.. just need some 2 or 3" tubing.

What kind of electric smoker do you have? I've been considering an electric something or a pellet grill to add to the ring of fire.

I am planning on getting a hot plate to put in the bottom of my gas smoker this weekend... just add a pie pan full of chips and off she goes.

I have a Masterbuilt Sportsman Elite - there is a side (cold smoker pot) option.

    • RE: Yealink T46p and Algo Ringer

Well,.. with the weather we had rip through Kentucky this past week (TS / TD Helene) Didn't get to circle back to this, but discovered one possible issue. the Headset button on the phone itself needed to be enabled. (duh)

Yes, when I test this with another phone (T46p) and my Jabra headset, the headset doesn't ring when dialed. Checked to ensure that phone was enabled on the Jabra - but didn't seem to make a difference.

I expect it is something simple,.. and easy to overlook, but not found it yet. And today I am trying to not think about work and work on the 720,.. Curious as to what else I can end up putting on this as a Proxmox host.

Sweet. I've got the gas/charcoal Masterbuilt. It has been great, and I'll be retrofitting it with an electric cold smoke option this weekend.

I like this model,.. but don't leave it out since it's electric. I'm looking at a retro-engineered option similar,.. take the old grill I turned into a 'fire pit' and add a smoke tube from it to the smoker to give me my cold smoke...

    • RE: read only ssd

Here some some results that may help:

      https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/disk-drive-stuck-in-read-only-state-despite/33aaaad5-75ee-4e6c-b5bc-3b5f816d99ba

One suggestion is the Samsung tool: "Please check your drive using Samsung Magician too"

SSD 970 EVO PLUS in read-only and shop wants me to send it - what would you recommend

Suggests saving what you can and move on.

M.2 NVMe Boot SSD locked in Read-Only

If you can read it, you can recover data and move on,.. Check warranty of the drive, but depending on what is on it,.. do you (risk)warranty replacing it? I generally always get a new drive and retain the old drives, make copies and pull the drive apart (platters and magnets) and anything solid state gets the hammer fire treatment. My bench is a black hole to drives or any type of storage.

    • Color Printer: new set up best practices

We all hate printers,.. I'm not a fan either. I just realized with adding three printers this week or next I'll have to update two or three print servers and then the users.

But - For a color printer, is it still best practice to create two printers? One Mono and one Color?

Or just let the user deal with it and only create one?

@scottalanmiller said in Color Printer: new set up best practices:

Probably depends on printing patterns. We print VERY little, and only a few people, so for us a single printer and the end user is trusted to print what makes sense in the printer setup is what makes sense. If you have a huge office and only some people should print in color and you print a lot, then two printers would make sense.

Looking at it from that aspect - good plan. As much as I would love to rid myself of the printers it is a heavy need. They print all of the pick or pack slips for products to be shipped and they the commercial invoices - which have to use color.

I am only getting these three printers and they ruined five HP Color printers by buying and using sub-standard paper. Paper was such crap, I spent about eighteen hours tearing one printer down to the transfer belt and finding nothing. Of course, canned air on nearly every part of the disassembly could have help.

These three new printers will be on a service contract - so someone local can service them,.. or replace them. and I won't have to keep dropping upwards of two grand a printer every sixteen months.

Now to get back at the work... ugh.. IT is fun, but could seriously use some down time. Even been thinking of activating the local park for POTA- Parks on the Air (ham Radio)

In the most recent apartment complexes I have rented from, none currently had the ability to offer internet; either by wire or wireless.

As with any rental, house, apartment regardless of type I supplied my own router and Wi-Fi.

I’ve wanted to cold smoke cheese for a while. I’m interested in that design

It is an Ad Hoc design of I wonder if this will work.

      • Gallon Paint can
      • 4" Duct Starter
      • 4" to 3" reducer
      • 8' 4" tube (not shown)

I used the can opener on my Leatherman to cut slots about every inch around the bottom of the paint can, but believe some higher up will be needed as the charcoal briquettes burn and 'smother' them

To reduce the rate of chip burn - they will likely go into another pan, above the charcoal...
