WebRoot has said this is not their problem and cannot help me. So awaiting Symantec CleanWipe...my next step is to get the tool.

I don't see that anyone has recommended trying the symantec cleanwipe tool. I would give that a shot in case its a shitty uninstall that is causing you issues.

I can't find the CleanWipe tool...it says I need an active account to download...I asked Symantec on Friday but they still haven't responded...

She is more concerned with Contacts and photos...so....I manually set an iCloud backup on old phone and she will leave phone with me overnight as it does a backup over our WiFi here at work...will see if her new phone slowly syncs that new data...otherwise, I will try the other suggestions listed above...

I bet she fills up her new 256GB iPhone in record time...

Contacts are stored .... where? Not in something like GMail or whatever?

She does it all on iCloud...

      That almost seems impossible.

iCloud backs up automatically when you are plugged in and on WiFi. Unless she was never on WiFI the past year.

She is never (or rarely) on WiFi and if she is, it may be because her phone is so full, it never completes a WiFi backup in the time she is in WiFi...she doesn't use WiFi at home...just cellular data...since this phone is no longer activated, it has to use WiFi...

If that phone has been sitting in your office for days (like the week you've mentioned) did it not try to backup over your WiFi already?

OK She's never on WiFi - sounds like an actual, real life backup solution needs to be discussed, she's breaking the typical (WiFi based) one.

I've tried...so many times on backup solutions for her...she is nice about it but doesn't trust it...she is so worried about losing her pictures...I've been trying to get her to accept a backup plan for a few years now...

You can always manually back up to iTunes.

We've tried...it never stops...at least on her Mac...it shows progress early on but shows a full progress bar and just sits on Backing Up (her name) Phone...left it for 3-4 hours at one point and it never stopped...

Wait ... the restore was from a year ago. Isn't she missing a ton of stuff on the new phone then?

Yes...but she thought it was October 22nd 2016 and not from 2015, so she hasn't had a backup in over a year...so the question is if her old phone does a good iCloud sync, will it sync to new phone?

    • iPhone Old Phone / New Phone Sync Problems

Deep Breath...daughter of our company President. iPhone 128GB full of pictures she doesn't organize and almost out of space. Let me just get that off my chest first. But don't judge...I'm always pleased and happy to help. This one is just difficult.

She received a new iPhone 7. With previous iPhone 7's here, I simply backup old phone to iTunes (usually on my PC, Windows) and restore to new phone and it has always worked. Well, her phone doesn't seem to ever end the backup to iTunes on her Mac. We've always had to stop it because she has places to go and can't wait on it. So she said that she has backed up to iCloud as she purchased a TB of space...fine...I told her to restore her new phone from iCloud. Well, that backup was from October 22nd from last year...coincidentally, it was October 22nd of this year she got the new phone, so she thought it was a fresh backup.

So she has had the iPhone 7 with a backup restored from a year ago and has taken pictures and made iMessages for over a week.

So question...what do I do here? Do I take her old phone and force an iCloud backup? Will that then sync with the new phone?

Do I backup the old one again (attempt to), factor reset her new phone and then restore the most current backup from old phone?

How can I ensure both phones are backed up on iCloud?

      Thanks...

Oh and by the way...the user of Estimating02 is out today so we can poke and prod it as our test today if needed. 🙂

I had WebRoot uninstalled on Estimating02 all weekend. So since the user was out today, I was able to do a few things...the first thing I did was release/renew IP address...and then reboot...BAM, it pinged...I reinstalled WebRoot...it is pinging still...and Windows Firewall is turned OFF (Webroot Firewall is on)...Webroot did call me and said it is OK for Windows Firewall to be on so may turn it on later (user actually came into work, so can't play with Estimating02 right now).

So, I am making a master list of PC's that won't ping and may try this on a few more to see if it helps...Drafting02 is next... 🙂

      Theory didn't work...Drafting02 still doesn't ping...

Back to the grind today on this. I do have a call scheduled with WebRoot to see if they can shed some light on this. I imagine it is one dang setting somewhere but can't seem to find it.

I assume I need to set a different capture filter to look for that?

      Sounds like it to me

Wireshark, running on my PC, doesn't see any of the PC's that won't Ping by the way...and then this...

Thanks...I did have that MBS program lock up while I was capturing so I filtered to that workstations IP and wireshark didn't capture any file transfers to our file server...I assume I need to set a different capture filter to look for that?

In fact, it isn't seeing anything to and from our file server except when I ping to it.

What happens with estimating02 if you try to ping the DHCP, DNS, or AD servers? Is that what is not working?

I will go try right now...and again, only picking on estimating02 because the user is out today...over half our PC's are having this "not pining" problem and those same users are having that one program randomly lock up when doing heavy writing to a network share.

Look in your DNS server to see if machines have more than one IP registered... sounds like your machine did.

Looking at DNS manager everything looks good in the Forward and Reverse Lookup Zones... none of the affected PC's have duplicate IP's assigned...any other place I should look?

I wonder how estimate02 got the 192 address if it wasn't in DNS, and you said that adapter wasn't currently connected.

I'm also wondering, could it ever reach that address? assuming it's not part of your no VLAN setup, there would be no routes in your router for it. But really that's getting off topic from the main issue at hand.

Yeah, I'm shaking my head...especially when someone walks in and wants to know if I made any progress on a development project...just now...mind you, I don't announce to everyone what I do because no one really cares...but I had to say I've been chasing gremlins for 2 weeks, and really, I have...this network issue is just another gremlin.

And I've downloaded Wireshark but going to have to find a video on how it will work for me...

Estimating02 CAN ping the Domain Controller, DHCP/DNS Server and File Server.
The Domain Controller, DHCP/DNS Server and File Server cannot ping Estimating02.

      From the Domain Controller ...

nslookup estimating02.yourdomain.local and ensure the IP it returns matches with estimating02's actual IP?

      Server: localhost
      Address: ::1

      Name: estimating02.domainname.local
      Address: shows correct IP address

Is Estimating02 able to surf the internet without issues, and it only has problems accessing SMB file shares / in-house stuff?

Or is the only problem when this one application tries to do stuff?

Estimating02 is only having the problem where the program MBS (which writes heavily to a network share) will just lock up at random during writing. (side note...even PC's that ping are having this random lockup issue). It is the one application that is having the problem. We use Microsoft Dynamic's (on a VM on a second virtual host) and had no issues...

No internet surfing problems for estimating02.

And a reminder...on the PC's that I can't ping, and I am sure it stands to reason, I can no longer access their C$ as a Domain Admin.

So the issue with MBS started after you uninstalled Symantec?

Have you run one of the Symantec uninstaller / cleanup tools on this system and not just removed it from Add/Remove Programs?

Not yet as Symantec says I need to open a support ticket and can't freely download it...I do think it is from removing Symantec from the Domain Controller and File Server...what it left in its wake...I'll open a ticket with them...I've also enlisted the help of WebRoot too to see if they could shed light on it...

Love being in a SOLO IT shop but these are the days I wish I had a team...thankful for everyone here on ML! 🙂
