I'd much rather a company did not invest so heavily into the pre-sales teams and had a more balanced approach to their support for paying clients.

Never heard of SolarWinds called a big behemoth of a company, we think of them as some small time local guys here in Texas. They are a local Austin company and not big enough to show up as a player in town.
500 million in revenue last year, that's fairly decent. Have you ever used their software? They manage to make IBM software look less clunky.

RE: NSA Tools Now Powering Script Kiddies to Access Unpatched Windows Machines
This is the NSA right now:

They have more than enough tool kits.

@msff-amman-Itofficer You think it's missing a good and modern interface?
Having literally just looked at the OSx client...yes.

RE: Atera vs Solarwinds MSP
Atera we had to drop from consideration because they had no clue how EU privacy laws work despite employing sales reps in the EU. Solar winds are a big behemoth of a company, they do a lot of products, some of them good but they are a very bloat-ware heavy machine.
What issues are you seeing with Ninja? That is the RMM we use.

And for a phone that is outside the Chinese market. Look at the OnePlus
Currently using a OnePlus 3 and have been since October. Great quality phone, delighted with it.
What is a "Dash Type-C Cable"? Is it proprietary? Now that I'm used to inductive charging, and being able to charge with any old micro USB cable if I'm away from my home/home office, I don't know if I could deal with a proprietary cable.
My phone charges from 0 to 100 in 30 minutes and lasts a day of heavy use. You don't want any mickey mouse cable.

RE: Cross Platform Encryption Tool?
Are you trying to encrypt the entire device or just data within a specific app?

RE: Webroot - Malicious autorun scripts on USBs
@Carnival-Boy Nope. Still present in every version of Windows since XP. In 7 it asked what action you would like to take for removable media and a default was often, open file explorer.
In Windows 10, it is still alive and kicking but I thought I had it disabled.

RE: Webroot - Malicious autorun scripts on USBs
Triggered before I touched any files.
FYI Webroot replied to my ticket within 15 minutes requesting a time when one of their engineers could contact me. Fast reply.

Sounds like a good candidate for our non-profit security test center!
No one would donate or fund it. Its not sexy enough to get donations.

Avast blocks the thing, just tested it.

Webroot - Malicious autorun scripts on USBs
This happened on my own laptop.
Plugged in a customer pen drive to find all files/folders had been replaced by shortcuts which opened the original file or folder but also launched a script, this behaviour repeated itself on other USB sticks plugged in so something corrupted the autorun process.
I also found this in the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Software / Microsoft / Windows / CurrentVersion / Run
wscript.exe //D "C:\Users\BreffniPotter-DaraIT\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Office\Microsoft Word.WsF"
I'm using a policy which has all the features enabled and set to high.
Opened a ticket with Webroot so will post back the reply.

RE: 3rd Party InfoSec Testing Center
Universities? Those incredibly slow to react to change organisations delivering up to date security data?
-
RE: 3rd Party InfoSec Testing Center
The tests need to be about real world usage. Screen recorded, with log dumps published.
I.e go to freemusic4u.com

RE: 3rd Party InfoSec Testing Center
More importantly, how do you show trust and accountability.
I don't care if you are a non profit or a commercial entity, neither proves that you are a trusted source. Either can be bought and paid for.
Also, what is the definition of a good test. I've seen tests where Symantec has won consistently and I know the product sucked at the time.

RE: Lastpass degree biased surveys
FYI. This is for their business users, not pro.

Lastpass degree biased surveys
So, LastPass sent out a survey and just for fun, I tested the variations on page 1.
You are only eligible for the survey if you have a degree, if you state any other option, you are not eligible. I guess the non degree user base has no opinion on how the product could be shaped.
sigh
