    • RE: Best formatting for external HD for use with MacOS and Windows

Looks like USB 3.0 supports up to 5 Mb, the SATA drives claim 6 Mb, but I'm sure the single drive would be the bottle neck on the USB 3.0 interface.

I guess I never assume wireless for work networks, at least not for It personal. But maybe that's just me with my blinders on. I avoid wireless for anything more than casual surfing.

@nic I have to assume you're talking about USB 3 being faster than LAN speeds. My personal tests have shown a NAS on 100 Mb LAN copies much faster than USB 2.0.

I do wonder when the country in general will have ubiquitous gig internet access? I hazard a guess that 'high' speed is pretty ubiquitous, just not THAT high speed.

I'm on the very, very back end of the central/west ATT hub in Houston, and I get 0.3-1.5 megs when friends a few blocks over get 35 megs. It's insane.

These systems are OLD, and I've heard horror stories in other as well where the old back-ends just can't support advertised speeds.

I take it there are no cellular options for you?

    • RE: Windows 8.1 Updates Coming for Mouse Users

I used to think people were just whiners about the fact that the wallpaper didn't follow from the desktop to the start screen, but I definitely notice the 'jarring nature' of it now that I'm using Windows 8.x daily. Does it bother me enough to complain, not really.

But the default apps that MS wants you to use, COME ON! I'm on the desktop why in the world would I want to use a full screen PDF viewer or picture viewing app? especially if the system has a desktop version installed (hint hint Windows photo viewer).

Thanks for this - I'm going to compare it against Freshbooks.

Anyone using wave and allowing it access to their bank for records reconciliation?

Are you working on your post count today @scottalanmiller ? LOL

      All great points.

Do you know if Pertino is working on a gateway appliance to allow access to devices that you can't install their software directly on? Say an AS400 (iSeries).

I hate when cab drivers whine the whole ride to try to get a better tip.

How does that work? If someone's whining at me I'd have a tendency to give them a smaller tip.

      @JaredBusch said:

@Bill-Kindle A public institution such as a school has no right to ban a language from being spoken. They can require that classes be taught in a specific language, but you cannot tell me that I may not speak another language in the hallways to a friend. That is a discrimination against the students based on their ethnic heritage.

I mostly agree with this, but i don't agree that banning another language is tantamount to ethnic discrimination. God forbid it's ever found that students are talking in another language about doing bad things in a school (think bombings/shootings, etc) You might find a public outcry for a national language 'for the safety of our children' shhhheesh.

This is either caused by a firewall that isn't working or AV. We've had several people with it. Untangle and trend micro are both know to have bugs causing this issue.

So my slowness could be a Sonicwall issue with websockets?

agreed, a NAS is the way to go.

If you have a single printer you want to share with both computers, you don't want to have to move a cable between the systems - you buy a network attached printer and share it with both.. the same applies to storage.

    • RE: Google Hoping to Update Angular.js

I don't really consider this an Android problem. It's really a carrier problem because they lock down the device and don't allow users to do updates. Granted I understand why they don't - fewer support calls, so it's really a double edged sword.

      My favorite bit

Windows 8.1 Update brings many more little changes. Many of them should have been in Win8 from the get-go. For example, in Windows 8.1 Update, the default apps for viewing pictures and media on the Desktop doesn't propel you to the Metro side any more: You get connected to Desktop programs that can handle the file type just fine.
