Yes, this is a really big deal. Mississippi is not a region that traditionally has good Internet access or resources like this. Mississippi is very rural. For the US you would call it a very poor farming province.

The Delta is still very behind the times. I live in the mecca of Mississippi 🙂 Hattiesburg is a great city! but yes, my neighborhood is one of the pilot fiber hoods. I'm spearheading the cause in my hood, signs, hand shaking, and mailbox drops 🙂 i'm excited, i could play with a gigabit connection for sure.

That's awesome that it might go in down there. Now if NY could get something like that.

What? FiOS doesn't do it for you?

No FiOS in New York State. Verizon only has tiny, tiny regions here. NYC has it and downtown buffalo. That's all that I know of.

I do wonder when the country in general will have ubiquitous gig internet access? I hazard a guess that 'high' speed is pretty ubiquitous, just not THAT high speed.

Long time out I would guess. We still don't have phone lines everywhere.

I'm on the very, very back end of the central/west ATT hub in Houston, and I get 0.3-1.5 megs when friends a few blocks over get 35 megs. It's insane.

These systems are OLD, and I've heard horror stories in other as well where the old back-ends just can't support advertised speeds.

I take it there are no cellular options for you?

@dashrender They all limit bandwidth, or are very slow in my area. It's really not the end of the world I can still stream shows and such, but it's either download, stream, game, OR work/internet.
