@DustinB3403 said in XenServer 7 has launched!:

The root partition is now 18GB!

      Damn!

Now I don't feel bad using that 32GB for my production system.

Actually, reading through the install guide, it says this... So it looks like 32GB isn't even enough!!

      • 18GB XenServer host control domain (dom0) partition
      • 18GB backup partition
      • 4GB logs partition
      • 1GB swap partition
      • 0.5GB UEFI boot partition

Customers installing XenServer 7.0 with the new partition layout described above should ensure they have a disk that is at least 46GB in size.

Customers who would like to install XenServer 7.0 on smaller devices, that is devices with more than 12GB but less than 46GB disk space, can perform a clean installation of XenServer 7.0 using the legacy DOS partition layout.

@BRRABill I wonder if there is a USB 3.0 version of that...

My (brand new DELL servers) servers only have USB2, so it did not matter to me. 🙂

I am sure any reputable branded USB stick would work.

    • RE: Phone Calls Over WiFi

I was asking for a general case (for more information) but in the specific case that got me thinking about this, all the users in the traveling family have iPhones.

I think they can turn on the Wifi Calling and be set. I just want to confirm texting is free as well. But it should be. (As long as it is to US numbers.)

Of course, as @scottalanmiller reminded me, it doesn't help in the case of an emergency (or if there isn't Wifi), but it's certainly a pretty cool feature to finally come to AT&T.

    • RE: Apple Watch VENT

I had an issue with iCloud. (Couldn't access it on any web browser.) I was very shocked at how bad the first few support people I spoke with were.

When I finally spoke with someone helpful, they got it fixed.

Hope you find that person quickly.

Ya my fitbit band started to come apart. I did have to send a single picture of the band, but they sent me a new one no other questions asked. I didn't have to provide proof or purchase or anything.

I know quite a few people who got a second one just that way.

And legitimately, too. Like there was something broken that wasn't something to prevent it from not working. One of my coworkers, the little band that holds the strap down broke. They have no replacement for that so they sent him a whole new one.

    • Cloning XenServer on USB or SD

      @scottalanmiller said

You can clone with it still in.

We were discussing this in the USB cloning thread.

      Tell us more!

(WE also discussed using CloneZilla, but for people unfamiliar with how it works, and trying to clone two identical drives, that might get messy. I guess you could always use two different types of drives of the same size to make it easier.)

    • Entry Level Desktop Needed Quickly

Whenever I need an entry level desktop for someone, I generally pop on the DELL site, throw together an entry-level Optiplex with i5 and 8GB of RAM, and be done with it. Sometimes I'd drop down to the Vostro or Inspiron if they were really trying to save money. (Such as for a non-profit or something like that.) Though usually it's really not enough of a cost savings to warrant.

Someone asked me if I could get something to them very quickly this week. I know DELL has the preconfigured systems ready to go, but there has been some talk on ML recently about the types of machines people buy, and where they buy them from. So, I was thinking maybe there might be an alternative for me. Maybe even someplace like Amazon where I could get it in a day.

How/Where do you source machines you need quickly? And what are you buying these days?

I guess Windows works the same way, but I've always been fearful not rebooting pretty quickly would lead to serious system problems.

Though I am guessing that rebooting pretty quickly after applying patches that require rebooting on XS is probably prudent. Still, I could install during the day and just reboot it at night.

    • RE: o365 and HIPAA information between two different agencies

What I meant to say was that there are like 5,000 things that go into HIPAA compliance. Which is why O365 would never say they are "HIPAA Compliant", but rather could be used as part of a company being compliant.

For example if they are using Outlook and the file is then stored in a cache on a local machine, they are no longer compliant. Well, they could be, if it was also encrypted locally, inventoried, audited, etc., etc., etc..

I just wanted to be sure the OP knew there was a lot more than just the transport to worry about.

FDE can be easy, but not cost effective. I have no idea how much FDE drives are these days, also what are the local system requirements to make them work? i.e. Does the BIOS have to support it?

The Samsung SSDs support FDE and they can be had for well under $100. The software to manage the FDE costs $39 if you want it for an individual use case, but in a healthcare type environment that would all be centrally managed. I'm not sure how much that is.

Though if you ever lose a laptop it's worth it! 😲

    • Door Security

I was wondering what everyone uses for door security in their buildings.

We had an issue last week where this guy reselling Verizon basically wouldn't let us close the door. I happened to answer the door that day (he was looking for me) and am pretty large so it was not an issue. But it made me concerned about other people answering the door and getting into similar situations.

We have a locked glass door, so I guess we could just keep it shut and only open it for people who have a clear business need. We have no lobby available.

But I was just wondering what setups every else has for this kind of "perimeter" security.
