Good article. I hear a lot of folks tout about how they need to get the A+ to get started... without understanding what EXACTLY what the A+ is, or the material consists of. CCNA/MCSA/etc being specific paths, I was really curious as to what good alternatives outside of CompTIA were. I'm curious as I've taken the first approach, getting certified where I NEED to be certified, and going down those linear paths. Or, at least, being taken down a path because it is required for growth, rather than going down it because I feel like it is going to be "the best route" for advancement. All in all, I don't get certified before I need to be (on specific certs like VCP-DCV) because the place I'm applying to might not even recognize it (like having a VCP but the company is all Hyper-V... like the place I'm at now, having come from a big VMware environment previously).

Cisco vs. Polycom - Phone System
I've managed Cisco's UCS/UCM phone system in a previous environment, and I know it was really expensive. Now I'm in a network that uses Polycom, that we don't really manage all that much (we do about 90% of requests, but anything deep level we have a contract). I was asked by a director at a school district about Polycom vs. Cisco vs. Asterisk. I said Asterisk is going to be the least expensive but I didn't think his provider could port for outside calls (that's pending), and wasn't sure about cost difference between Polycom and Cisco. He also asked what the Polycom software is called (I thought it was InCom?). Does anyone have any numbers on an RFP they put out, or have gone down that road comparing Cisco to Polycom? Thanks!

RE: Thinking about getting rid of 0365
@scottalanmiller What are you using for company email archiving? I no longer have a need for a solution that records up to 10 years, but always curious what others use.

RE: Thinking about getting rid of 0365
@scottalanmiller Really? Once we got it configured, I found it to be alright. Not the best, but for bottom budget it worked as intended. Making the transfer to Vault was an utter nightmare if you have a GAFE domain. Because we separated staff and students with a sub-domain, Google went ahead and made our staff domain a GAFB, which is to-be paid for. So we ended up with a fragmentation of 2 different domains. Licensing and device OUs being another nightmare as those also got fragmented.

RE: Thinking about getting rid of 0365
As much as I hate Exchange, I hate Gmail a whole lot more. When they bought up Postini I started considering their archiving Vault solution. Haha no chance of that happening, that solution is garbage comparatively. Kept trying to like their consumer side of things, just isn't going to happen though. Only reason I have a Gmail account now is for the Google Play Store.

RE: Yahoo Seach Down
@scottalanmiller It must be regional, as it's fine here in southern Idaho. Yahoo could be down for a month and the only way I'd know, is from seeing it in news articles. lol

RE: Yahoo Seach Down
I read that it was expected to be up before about 30 minutes... Reading news articles about it being down for hours.
I am Jack's skepticism.

RE: September 2015 Performance
@scottalanmiller if there was a mobile app vs formatting a web page for mobile, I'd download it in a heart beat. I surf Mango and Spiceworks on mobile when I'm out and about (70% of the time I'm on threads). A lot of people may do Facebook/Twitter for killing time, but ML/SW are my 100% go-to. Can't wait to see the improvements with the coming years as both struggle on mobile in many ways. The areas that SW struggles, ML already incorporates. Areas that ML struggles, SW incorporates.

RE: September 2015 Performance
@scottalanmiller do you notice any stuttering while scrolling on mobile (be it Android or IOS)? Randomly sliding out the right panel while scrolling..

RE: September 2015 Performance
I like the "slide to Paginate" option on Mango. Trying it out as the issues on mobile are maddening. Chrome and Firefox both show the same signs. Not sure if Cyanogen is the culprit, but no other sites have given me the same compatibility problems. Desktop is perfect. The real-time refresh even on mobile is a welcomed feature.

Sweet! A lot of eager admins were waiting for that to come forward.

RE: Hyper-V 2012r2 Fanboy right here
@scottalanmiller Seems like more has happened with Hyper-V in the last 12 months, than it ever has in development. I'll be excited to see what happens in the next few years, especially with RemoteFX and VDI (setting up some Raspberry Pi 2's from Amazon for $70, and Raspberry Thin PC download). Tried it out over this last spring in a VMware Horizon View environment, and all I can say is wow. That install has pretty much every remote protocol. You can harden the client by locking out the docks/settings/etc once you're all done setting it up. Not perfect, but nearly there.

RE: Mobile Mango Madness
@JaredBusch I misunderstood pagination. I thought it was some kind of add-on or extension.

RE: Mobile Mango Madness
@JaredBusch Not using either. Just run of the mill settings on a standard browser. It's so weird...

RE: GreenShot Free OpenSource Screenshot Utility for Windows
I use GreenShot every day. Love it. I especially like the capture last region as we have lectures/PowerPoints every day and I save a lot of slides.

Mobile Mango Madness
Has anyone else had issues with the Mango site on their smart phones? I took a screen cast from my phone (OnePlusOne). The site goes crazy sometimes and I can't scroll, it just auto scrolls all over the place. Using latest OS and Firefox.

RE: Linux SCP issue
Got it figured out. Turns out that the directory being called, didn't exist. All good now though, thanks for all the quick responses!

RE: Linux SCP issue
@scottalanmiller the admin says that the script will run, but simply doesn't copy. There's no error thrown (sorry that isn't more helpful). If he would get back to me already, I'd have him run those commands right now.
