If money were no object, I'd be using thermal. You can get it anywhere, but drilling a deep enough well is what makes it prohibitively expensive, and it's not so great on a large scale yet from what I know. Secondary to that would be a Thorium or PBR reactor, but the smallest of those are town sized units.

I too would like my own nuclear reactor... I solemnly swear that I will do very little evil with it....

Good luck producing any fissionable materials with either of those. Physics protecting us from @MattSpeller.

Pfffft I can do tons of fun stuff if you give me half a megawatt to play with. Don't need fissionables for what I have in mind 😄

Half a megawatt? You're a real innovator then. I need at least 1.21 gigawatts to do anything spectacular.

Well the template works just fine. Apparently I didn't bring my brain to work today. I started back at the very beginning to find where I messed up. The security filtering was where I had an issue. I had a bunch of nested groups setup, but I was tinkering with my account so I could work on the testing of it before I deployed it. Wasn't even being applied. Geez.

      Death ray?

Enormous capacitor bank to feed my home brewed RailGun that would only ever be used for good I totally promise 😄

Oh goodness, the mind boggles with the options....

I'd use the proceeds to start Canada's only firearms ammunition manufacturing company, smelting the lead bars myself from recycled car batteries.

Oh, also, recycling plastics (HUGELY energy intensive, could easily take all 500KW on it's own)

Canada has no ammunition factories? I'd be so bummed about not having any... Every town in Idaho I've lived in makes bullets. Not just reloads in someone's basements, but big businesses. 😄

Like CCI (Spear, ATK). Anyone who's done some serious shooting in the USA knows what CCI is. Their headquarters was just down the street in Lewiston, ID.

That is a sharp looking shirt.

It's not the cheapest, but moderately priced at about $28 for some quality dri-fit material. It got more expensive with name brand shirt manufacturers such as Champion/Port Authority/etc.

I found cotton as low as about $15-18. I could probably find cheaper online if I really looked, I just picked the first couple Google searches.

    • WIM to VHD for image upgrades

Because of our scale, I decided to stop using SCCM (only 110 users) and use WDS. Works fantastic. The only problem is updating the images. There are now 150 updates to new images that run after a reimage plus a couple programs that need to be added. I found some support to a convert-windowsimage.ps1 -showui PowerShell script that one can run. I got an execution policy error and had to change that to run the script. Once I changed that, it ran but didn't load up the WIM2VHD GUI. No errors, nothing.

We don't have VMware Workstation so I'm trying to do this in VirtualBox. In short, how do you load up a .wim in a virtual instance (doesn't HAVE to be VirtualBox) so that I can modify it, then capture it as a .wim to be uploaded to WDS? Surely I can't be the only one who wants to do this. It would make things so much easier than trying to track down the machines (we don't have extras) and modify/capture.

The platform change is a big move, but come out with a new game if you're going to do it. Make a bigger splash of it.

You do not get much bigger than Super Mario, nor the Apple iPhone event.

Also this was Nintendo. I seriously cannot compute how you guys do not understand how big this is that Shigeru Miyamoto got on Apple's stage to do this.

Didn't realize this was a fan boy thread. I'll show myself out.

Have to try something to squeeze as much profit out of that character as possible. "Mario2D... no... Mario 3D... No...MarioLand... NO... MarioWorld... NOOO... MARIOGALAXY!!! :D" I was expecting MarioUniverse before anything else. /disappointed

Much like Sonic. Should have taken that character out behind the shed years ago before they came out with games like that WereHog one. lol

To be fair Super Mario Sunshine and Galaxy were pretty decent games. Far from ground breaking but at least fun. The last few Sonic games have been... shitty.

Almost forgot about Mario Sunshine. Galaxy was indeed really fun. There was way more on that link I posted than I anticipated. The list count was staggering.

He's Nintendo's flagship character/franchise easily the most recognizable video character in existence. He even made a, brief, appearance at the Olympics this year!

Lol I get why they're (quite literally) beating the coins out of him (see what I did there?! :D). Would just like to see something original. Like Zelda, another original title. Another one that comes to mind (whether people hated the remakes or not, I thought they were pretty cool) was Metroid.

@coliver IMHO, every new version was a major improvement over its predecessor. Vista with UAC, Win8 had great new features behind the scenes (yeah, don't like the GUI too) and 10 is just great, apart from being naked when it comes to privacy.

About that tech: Well, everyone should have an opinion 😉

In laymen terms please describe "naked when it comes to privacy".

To name a few... WiFi Sense, Telemetry, Cortana. The list is extensive though, so much that people developed programs and PowerShell scripts to disable the atrocities that were the "features".

Maybe I don't follow, but how would having a server cluster be a bad thing? You're increasing your points of failure, sure, but you aren't relying on a single point...

I didn't say that it was. I said that redundancy is neither good nor bad. You are trying to associate the value of the cluster with the concept of redundancy. Yes, in that case, redundancy was a tool used to get reliability. But I think you are confusing the means with the ends. It is the reliability improving that is what is good. That you used redundancy to get here is irrelevant.

Haha sorry Scott, I think that misconception you mentioned earlier is what is happening here. I am hearing you say one thing, and associating it with something else, causing confusion. Some things should be redundant (like clusters that house critical services), but to associate "redundant" as being important with *any *product/service is obviously ridiculous. Did I break that down alright?

@Reid-Cooper said in HPE Acquires Nimble:

This will really lower competition in the SAN space. Only a few viable vendors left. Nimble was one of the few major players.

I disagree. What about Tintri, Kaminario, or Tegile? There are still plenty of vendors out there in Nimble's competitive tier. I mean they don't compare to HDS or IBM but again, Nimble is a completely different use case.

Honestly I think it would have made more sense for HPE to acquire Tintri for their portfolio at a reasonable price. Nimble is awesome for its own use case, but the acquisition seemed to be just one of appeasement to shareholders.

Unless they are shifting gears and trying to get more competitive in small-medium markets as an all around vendor (aside from adding Nimble, thinking of them purchasing Aruba a couple years ago as well).

Anyone who uses an Android Phone or an iPhone suffers this same list only on the the tech specific to their platform. As for WiFi sense, it's not enabled by default, so it's really a non issue!

I disagree. Anyone who enables the option, doesn't fully understand what they are giving up in my opinion. Having an option like that, just not employed, is like having a semi defective grenade that "ticks occasionally". It's a feature that could potentially cause damage, if maliciously enabled.

That feature has no reason to be in any release of Windows. It's very existence is questionable when it comes to security ethics. Microsoft didn't even remove it because it was a security issue, it was only removed because it wasn't being used by most.

Xen... XenServer... Xen server... Something I haven't looked into is the pricing. Xen is open source & free at the same time, that I have gathered. XenServer is something that Citrix has created, and charges for (open source, but not free... Red Hat in the same fashion. Open source, but not free). Xen server, any Xen server (can be open source and free, or can be XenServer... It's just a vague term). Anyone have any input? I'm always looking at new options for cost effective deployment in the right environment.

It's all open and all free. XenServer has no way to not be free because the license protects you. Citrix didn't create XenServer, it's built from Linux' Xen project and CentOS. Citrix just bundled it and sold support. And even that is in the past. Xen, XenServer are both part of the Linux Foundation, are both GPL and that means free.

Ok, I'm seeing it more clearly now. What Citrix was selling, was basically just support (bundled with the software of course, but they aren't technically selling the software, because they can't).

@BBigford said in Is Texas Next?:

@MattSpeller said in Is Texas Next?:

@BBigford I share your enthusiasm for firearms even if I do not own nearly as many. What I don't understand is why anyone would carry one around. It.... just does not compute for me. We may need another thread for just that.

Aside from a few home invasion attempts in various cities, I've also had various people try to enter our vehicle when we come to a stop sign or pedestrian crossings. We have the doors locked so I typically just pull away quickly when I hear them on the door handle. Some areas were very nice neighborhoods and they were just dumb kids that looked like they were on drugs, others were sketchy neighborhoods that couldn't have been avoided because of how the layout of the city was and where our destination was.

I also have been approached when I'm biking or on foot by aggressive homeless people in some of the parks that I will jog in or bike on the trail. A gun is just a tool, nothing more. You can't brandish it at someone to intimidate them or make them go away. But if it comes down to it, you have the tool to survive a situation. Luckily I've never had to draw on someone, and I hope I never have to. But if I'm put in that situation, I won't be the one that ends up in the obituaries and force my family to find another means of financial support. That's why I carry a firearm.

You have noble motives and from what you posted previously you are probably better trained than many police officers. Infact I know you are because I shoot with many of them here and they definitely do not train that hard haha.

I (personally!) can't justify the extreme responsibility of carrying a firearm out of fear. Out of duty like a police officer, absolutely. But without a societal role and responsibility to your fellow citizens hell no. Maybe it's because handguns are so rare here? Maybe it's crime? Maybe no one messes with 6' tall, young, well dressed gentlemen built like brick outhouses? Whatever the reason the whole idea gives me the creeps.

However I could imagine having a professional militia who were trained and held to high standards being allowed to carry. Just any regular mouth breathing moron though? These are the things nightmares are made of.

I wouldn't put myself on any level with law enforcement. I just enjoy training and not only want to be prepared, I want to make sure I'm ready.

I don't just carry for my own protection, it's for other people as well. If I saw someone fearing for their life, I would lay that attacker out like an animal behind the shed. No good, honest person has to die because someone chooses to put them in that situation. I really hope I am never put in that position where I have to come to someone's aid. If I wanted to be a hero and save people, I would have been a fireman.
