All a function of time and need and money.

Only time and money, need in a business is always a function of money.

Yeah, anything a business is using to make business continuity related decisions that isn't a function of time and money is a blatant example of why the responsible parties shouldn't be in charge of making business decisions.

I've literally seen someone ( @Mike-Ralston ) build a working computer in a pizza box after we ate the pizza.

So yeah... there was some water on my kitchen floor, turns out it was leaking out of my now very warm refrigerator. I'm fairly sure that next will be me getting struck by lightning (even though it's sunny out). FML.

Did you turn it off and turn it on again?

I kicked the shit out of it and cursed it severely, is that the same thing?

Not exactly, but that has also been known to work on occasion.

Well at least it's somewhat random. Some user happened to generate the 10,000th ticket. At least it's not the user who has created the most tickets when the first 10,000 are tallied. Then it would be the company honoring that one user who's been the bain of your existence. They might as well be sticking a knife in your back and laughing about it.

@aidan_walsh Nice, this is who we have in Rochester....

      https://blackbuttondistilling.com/

I'm not usually one for flavoured spirits but that Apple Pie Monshine sounds great.

Oh no, it's disgusting. Moonshine is like a new bizarre fake term in the US for "utterly shit sprits". No one would put the label moonshine on a product if it was palatable. THat's for the hipster kids to think that they are drinking something illegal when, in fact, it's just overpriced garbage.

So true. The only real moonshine comes from a bootlegger up in the hills, in an unlabeled mason jar. I am very fortunate to be semi-connected to some rural moonshine aficionados, and what they bring over on holidays is the truth.

Same here, I drink actual moonshine and it is awesome. What is labeled that is stores is just a gimmick. Nothing like moonshine in taste OR in actuality.

Exactly. Real 'shine has a super clean flavor that is inimitable. And if you want to test the authenticity, pour a tiny bit in the jar lid and light it... should be a pure blue flame, anything else is bs.

I expect to see some at ML Con2!

      not officially...

$2.50/user/mo for screen sharing. That's a bit expensive when Skype is free (but doesn't work, so I get the issue.)

Works fine for me as does Google Hangouts.

Chime feels like, we're Amazon, lets make yet another product.

Depends, can you call me on it? nope, because MS has their accounts all broken. So in reality, it doesn't work for you, it just makes it feel like it works for you.

Danielle thinks it works for her, too, but people with her in their user list see her account broken and have problems contacting her and her account will semi-randomly get deleted and show up wrong with images and details from old accounts she doesn't have any more and she, too, can't get calls to work to some people.

Because the issues with Skype are account based, people often feel that it "works for them" even when they too are experiencing issues.

"People"? You mean you. No one else. Don't say Gene, because his issues are not isolated to Skype.

Yea,.. Because well - It's Gene

I think there's something deeper than just Skype on your computer, maybe even at the OS level.

Nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

I like the way you think! lol

@DustinB3403 Well, 6.5 million watched. 6.4 million knew it wouldn't work. 30% of those actually have iPhones, and a third of those went and bought the iPhone 7, so that makes about 10,000 that actually believed the video, and I would guess that maybe 5% of those actually got out the drill, so, best guess +/- 200 phones?

Also, were you aware that 83.6% of all statistics are made up?

      83.6%? That's not the number I heard.

    • RDS / Outlook interactions causing crashes?

I am currently dealing with an issue where a remote office runs their ERP system on their desktops via an RDP connection back to the hosting server at the main office. When a user at the remote office has a local install of Outlook open as well as their RDP session, and they decide to click from the RDP session aplication to Outlook, the RDP session frequently crashes. This could be happening with other open local applications, but Outlook is the only one that I have heard specifically named as an issue.

The remote office is connected by a site-to-site VPN to the main office, with an Edge Router at each end of the pipe. We are seeing pings ranging from 60ms to over 200ms, with an occasional timeout, and the average is about 100-120ms. I'm not sure if this latency has anything to do with a local app causing an RDP session to drop, but I'm curious what the community has to say about this.

Have you seen this happen, or something similar? What was the root issue?

@wirestyle22 said in RDS / Outlook interactions causing crashes?:

What are the system specs of the workstations they are using as well as the network equipment installed? 200ms seems high for ny state to north carolina. I have a friend who lives in raleigh (I live in NJ) and we have much less than even 75ms if I try to remote to one of his servers.

My last company had a similar setup. 33 sites remoting to a single terminal server at the main site to access network resources.

Keep in mind that the main office is more or less in a corn field, 5 miles outside a dinky town, and the only cellphone service there is via the wifi in the building. The ISP is the local phone company. On the other side, the location is outside a small city area, but at least on a road with a couple other businesses nearby. I'm getting those pings from a server at the main location pinging the router at the remote location. It's not always that bad, but we see it more than occasionally in that range.

@scottalanmiller I agree. Looking at it like auto insurance where cars can be replaced for a price and medical bills can be paid just doesn't have parallels in IT.

Not at all. It's kind of like getting insurance against doing business badly.

And, at the end of the day, it's just monetary compensation for lost data, which I doubt can really be accurately assessed. If your data is gone, all the insurance in the world won't bring it back, and its value isn't well-replaced by dollars.
