If anyone wants to run a basic report on your SharePoint farm, you can use the spfarm report. Very easy, just run the powershell command from one of your SP server and it will gather all details and created a report with details like the farm configurations, health warnings, services installed on each server etc

    • Best hosting providers for a medium private cloud

      Hi all,

I am trying to find out some good hosting provider to host a private cloud setup. Someone who has very good experience in maintaining Linux and Windows environments.

      Requirements are:

      • Setup a 3 node Private Cloud with 5 TB of Primary Storage and 5TB of Secondary Storage.

      • Private Cloud would run on VMware Enterprise

      • Apart from that 2 x HP Servers, and 1 x HP SAN can be shipped (existing ones) to be joined into VMware Enterprise private cloud (so total 5 nodes).

      • With active/passive firewall services on the private cloud, with VPN

*Backup services to be used on the 5 TB of secondary storage

      • Offsite backup on different datacenter

DC location ideally be in the UK.

I would like to check on the recommendations for a provider and get some pricing from them

    • Windows 10 tool - Refresh Windows

Microsoft wages war on 'crapware' with new Windows 10 tool - Refresh Windows.

Microsoft yesterday released a free tool for Windows 10 that claims to scrub PCs of the "bloatware" -- also called "crapware" -- that computer makers pack on new machines.

Refresh Windows, which must be downloaded from Microsoft's website, currently works only on preview builds of 10, those seeded to participants of the Insider program.

    • Which TinyPC

I got a requirement from my boss that he wants a pc to connect to his office TV just to load MS CRM online. I was thinking of getting a tinypc instead of a laptop/desktop just as i think its an overkill to dedicate a machine just to show the crm dashboard. He will work on his laptop for CRM related work and this tv connected device is just for meetings to show the dashboard to get an overview of sales, target etc.

Checked the Intel stick and iView

I am even thinking of using these on other conference rooms to have Skype installed, so all i need is a mic and cam and conference room is set. Since its Windows, i could also load files using Office online if they need to screenshare to show some files.

      Suggestions please.

    • RE: Windows 10 tool - Refresh Windows

Was reading about this on other sites.

      As mentioned on this site:
      https://www.thurrott.com/windows/windows-10/68120/clean-pc-microsofts-refresh-windows-tool-can-help-make-windows-10-crapware-free

"Most Windows 10 users probably know that there is a Reset This PC tool in Settings that lets you reset your PC back to its original, factory condition. But since PC makers can modify the system image used by Reset This PC, the resulting clean install is anything but clean, and will include whatever crapware the PC maker decides to include."

Which is why MS has a new option which just restore OS without any other bloatwares, or in other words it doesn't allow vendors to inject their software on to the refresh os image.

Nothing big, but in my previous company where we have restrictions and EACH and EVERY purchase, when the server network cable clip was broken, used a pen cap to keep it secured on the server network port 🙂

Beginning in October 2016, both older operating systems will receive a cumulative rollup patch available each and every month via Windows Update. What Microsoft is doing is making updates to Windows 7 and 8.1 much easier and similar to how it handles Windows 10 updates.

    • How do you protect your Linux web servers

      Just read this http://www.tecmint.com/install-linux-malware-detect-lmd-in-rhel-centos-and-fedora/

Since there are new attacks emerging targeting web servers, what are your security best practices. (http://mangolassi.it/topic/6735/linux-ransomware-is-now-attacking-webmasters/2)

My servers are all managed using cPanel with configserver firewall installed. Auto updates critical security patches via cPanel, and csf blocks brute force attacks and such. Have Clamav as well. Read about rootkit hunter and the malware detect tool mentioned above. Anyone using these?
