      So I decided to upgrade. :). Weekend project while I’m sick. Vms created, moving all data now. This is MUCH quieter than the r710.

      I have an R710 and its pretty quiet.

      That's what I thought too. but the R630 is even quieter! now I just have to upgrade my network switch to a fanless one, and I'll be all set.

    • RE: Updating the Linux boot image before migrating from VMWare to Hyper-V

      In case anyone else runs across this same issue, I got this resolved with a simple command:

      dracut --regenerate-all -f && grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg

      After doing this, everything booted up properly.

      I then installed hyperv-daemons, rebooted, and everything works great.

      @scottalanmiller

      Great video. Thanks for that. Your assumption is correct. There are no PCs or servers on this network, just other networking equipment. I like the idea of the Pi and Mesh Central. I finally was able to find one and have it on order. Time to setup a mesh central vm.

      I also found this as an option as well https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B082VVCFNG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

      Not too badly priced either. But I am going with the Pi.

    • RE: Proxmox install / setup questions

      Proxmox is great so far. 2 servers, setup and available for replication/migration via separate 10G NICs that are direct connected. Then a PBS server where everything is backed up to. So far, so good.

      $20 bucks says that dobro orange product never lost an entire RAID array like my old Drobo did. šŸ™‚

      I was going to try to find someone from Vultr to come over here, but it seems they have no marketing people.....

      Michele Horzepa is their Business Administration person so that would likely be a good place to start.

      Thanks for the contact info. I'm spinning one up right now to start some testing!

      Yes we will be recording sessions. They will not be the awesomest recordings this year, due to it being our first one, and I can't afford to hire people. So IPhone are where it's at this year.

      Really looking forward to those recordings! Looks like I won't be able to make it after all this year. šŸ˜ž

      Yes, so far so good. I still didn't assign any numbers to the PBX yet for testing, but that's on the plan for this week. Then I can check voice quality.

      You can do that with just extensions. No need to hook to the PSTN to test that. Actually that's a bad test as you are testing many unknowns then, extension to extension is the best test of the PBX itself.

      Valid point Scott. Speaking of hooking up to PSTN, I've been using Vitelity and have had a good experience so far. Their support seems to be good and they are very helpful in assisting to diagnose problems. In previous roles, I've used NexVortex. Would anyone like to share their experience with either of those 2 SIP providers?

      @scottalanmiller said in Your Time Is Valuable:

      @guyinpv said in Home business ideas for transition out of 9-5?:

      I feel like every in home job I do is a rip off. It's 20% work and 80% waiting for their Walmart special to catch up.

      All IT people have to fix this thinking. That's not ripping someone off, that's someone making you waste your valuable time and you need to be compensated for it. No electrician, contractor, plumber, doctor, lawyer or other professional having to sit and wait because of customer decisions or limitations would ever have a thought like they were ripping off the customer for something that wasn't their own fault (and rarely even for things that are.) You ARE working and you DO deserve to be paid. You are mentally ripping yourself off. That their computer is slow, their Internet is slow or they live in the middle of nowhere is only their decision and the consequences of that decision belong to them, not to you.

      I used to think this way as well earlier in my career. When I started a family, it became very clear that my time was just too valuable to charge less because I felt "guilty." That type of thinking went right out the window.

      Awesome, straightforward guide. Thanks! i've been playing with my ERX at home and am liking the interface and structure of the CLI. Next up will be attempting the OpenVPN server/client setup. If I can get that working consistently, I might switch my office to EdgeOS as well.

      1. Built a firewood rack.

      2. Poured a drink.

      3. Emptied glass.

      4. Spun up Ubuntu server on Xen

      5. Installed Plex on above server

      6. Migrating media library to Plex. - Plex is pretty freggin awesome.

      7. Now debating whether or not I want to blow away my Xen install and start over on just one array. Currently Xen is on one RAID10 array, and the SR is on another bigger RAID10 array.

      8. Pouring another drink.

    • RE: What is the general opinion of non-standard business card formats?

      If I'm at a meeting and get one, I take it and put it in either my CRM or Outlook. Then I keep the card in a drawer and then eventually throw them away. I think they still have their place in business. It's something tangible to give out to business prospects or customers. Some people toss them, some people love them. I'm in between. Non-standard designs are nice as they stand out from the crowd.

      Good to know. I'm planning on starting this later this week. If I can get this working, I'm going to replace a PFSense firewall with an ERX or lite. Right now, this is the only thing that I dont have setup for ERX yet.
