Music whilst working?

@NattNatt Yeah I can't listen to a single type of music all day. It would drive me insane.

I generally have to listen to something all day. I prefer Music over TV/Netflix. Video just tugs my attention to much. And for some occasions, the music helps me cope with the day (stress).
I'm about to turn on NPR just for some news and the Market / Tech Reports. From there it goes to Pandora for any number of channels... Slam, Techno, Daft Punk, Lindsey Sterling, Maroon Five, and some others..
100% - If I'm watching something (like the DefCon vids yesterday) then it takes all my attention...but music helps me clear my mind and focus more...
-
I don't even listen to music on the drive in to work anymore. I've been listening to serial podcasts for a few years now.

Sames! So far today I've had some random pop, dubstep, bit of classic 90's, slipknot and now on some Linkin Park...

Not as interesting as Captain Crunch more interesting then Fruit Loops.

Noted, I'll be sure to keep an eye out for them

I listen to music when I really need to focus. It doesn't always help though...

Apparently I had a quote window open when I navigated to a different thread... It carried the quote over.

Yep, it does that, and then everyone is confused for a minute.

I find listening to music with headphones on a bit distracting, so don't generally do it. Some of my staff do and I don't have a problem with it. Whatever people find helps them.
Agreed, I could never work at a hipster tech company on the west coast - everyone with their headphones on, no walls open floor plan.
I do suppose it's one way to make sure employees are working and not screwing around on the interwebs - but then again, phone conversations from the person next to me would drive me insane as well.

LOL - same here. I hate it when I run out of my normal podcasts and have to listen to the radio to fill the void. It's caused me to pick up a few more podcasts to fill in the gaps.
Worst part of that is now I know how much time I spend in the car alone (don't get to listen to them when the wife is with me) - about 8 hours a week, between driving to/from work, to from lunch.

I spend ~40 minutes to an hour in the car a day. When I was driving back and forth to Rochester (~3.5 hours) the radio was killing me. I found a few podcasts I liked and they recommended some more.
-
Yeah - the Twit network is where I spend most of my time. If I was having to fill voids like 3.5 hours, I'd probably do books on tape/digital media player

I've tried Audible and other books-on-tape stuff. For some reason I can't do it. Much prefer to have a book in front of me that I can read.
-
I've been using Google Play for a 2 months now.
Though @Dashrender has me hooked on listening to podcasts in the car, though.

I definitely tend to remember the content better when I read with my eyes instead of my ears. So I wouldn't to do learning with books on tape - but casual reading - I don't mind.
