      1. StarTech

      2. $400

      Can't +1 this enough.

And thus the reason for the question @MattSpeller - Sheezh.

          You asked....

Edit: I feel like point #1 might be overlooked by anyone unfamiliar with StarTech. Previous experience with a vast range of their product has convinced me that there's no need to explain further, however we can have a rant post in another thread if anyone wants.

Why the StarTech hate? They make handy little doodads that work fine for me. Why I'm typing this on a PC connected through one of their USB 3.0 hubs + 1Gbps Ethernet adapters and I have yet to have any tro

I've had a low success rate with startech devices. They are cheap and when they work they work ok... but most of the time they don't. Even if one had been working fine one day the next it doesn't work at all.

We've had good luck with them. We have a lot of stuff from them for Cheap cables. Never bought their devices though.

Buy Startech products for people you dislike. That is literally the only reason to ever do it. Even if that person is yourself. If I ever buy you a Startech product I'm basically telling you I hate you.

At a former job we bought a serial to USB from them for a PLC once... never again. It did funky things and inserted random characters into programs. We returned it for a replacement... the second one didn't work at all.

USB to serial for a PLC is flaky anyway though. RSlogix doesn't like most of them. We use Serial over network anymore with much better luck.

We ran Serial to USB systems for years. Mostly had good luck. Mostly for scales.

No question there. We bought a more expensive one and it worked alright. Generally had issues connecting but it didn't do random character insertion or anything like that.
