Do you use the hard drives from XBYTE?
-
We use from xByte. xbyte has new as well, both drives and servers, not everything from them is refurbed.
-
Getting from Dell direct or from xbyte means you are getting tested drives with Dell firmware that will be fully functional in the servers, which is a big deal.
-
Thanks for the reply. I've never steered away from using Dell branded drives in any of my servers. Typically I am not a fan of refurbished anything, but when you can buy two for almost the price of one it's hard to pass.

I'm a big refurb fan. It's mostly what we have always used, desktops and servers. Refurb generally does not mean used, it means "unable to be classified as new." And from places like xbyte it carries full warranty. So it's all the benefits of new at a much lower price and more flexibility. Way nicer.

That makes me feel better about going forward with purchasing from them. From what I have read here and on SW, xbyte seems to have great support. That plus the direct support from Dell is reassuring. I've always had the fear of buying a refurb server, spending all this time setting it up, and then having early hardware failures.

Servers failing is always a scary thing. But in some ways refurb is actually better, more eyes on it.

I got some HP refurb drives off of Amazon. 300GB 10K SAS was like $35. I got the protection plan, so it has a 2 year warranty for an extra $2 or $3 per drive. And since I have Prime everything is shipped in 2 days. Thankfully I haven't had to test this out yet.

At that price you can buy a few extra for the shelf.

Ya we got a couple extra, but it's nice having the replacement for the one that dies.

when are xbyte coming to the UK?
I'll head it up if they make the HQ/Factory in Newtown Mid Wales - plenty of factory space available to buy/rent
