No, I told my GM that. We compete very heavily at the store level for many metrics. No one likes this guy and he's a worthless worker. We actually all have thought he's the guy who might just come in with a gun one day and start killing people. That's how he comes across. It'd absolutely be a double win.

Awesome, sounds like things are off to a great start.
They are. An exceptional start so far.

Sad to hear that your DM is so petty to consider this. He should be worried about the company as a whole, in additional to just his own store/area.

How did the interview this morning go?

I have an offer letter in hand and just need to complete the drug screening (which I'm doing in about forty minutes) and I'll be good to go! The guy seems very excited to have me onboard.

@thanksajdotcom drug screening for a retail job? Is that common?

No, I think this was for FedEx. It is very common for drug screening in manufacturing and labor oriented jobs in NY, not sure about other states.

Extremely. The more entry level a job, the more there is drug screening. Hard to say you are hiring the best professionals if you are screening for something other than ability to do work. It's all agenda - companies often use employment policy to push social agenda in the US.

There is a discount on worker's comp insurance if your workplace is "certified drug free".... we are about to do this certification, and it's basically:
- owners sign off saying "all drug free here"
- post lots of BS signs and policies around the office
- DISCOUNT!!!!
It's all talk, no action. There will be no "screenings" here (maybe for new hires, but I doubt it). It's just a show of policy for the sake of mitigating liability in event of a workplace injury. If we had forklifts, sure drug test people... but we make / support software here, so whatever. Zero surprise to see Staples using drug screening to cover their own asses.

@RojoLoco @coliver @scottalanmiller
Basically unheard of here, so strange to me.
I actually work with people who get tested all the time but for obvious and much different reasons.

Welcome to the US. Where being drug free is more important then being competent.

The hilarious part is, except for cannabis, 99% of tests won't catch anything unless you are high when you take it. As long as you stopped blowing lines by 4 or 5 am, you'll be fine for a morning drug screen.

I have been drug tested for every single job I have ever had (other than roofing one summer when I was 15).

Everything about America is shocking to outsiders.

That is unbelievable. I thought drug testing was practically mandatory here in the US. Maybe I just look like a druggy.....lol

I don't think I have ever been tested for employment before either.
