Backup Solution for Client

I am beyond confused with all this Unitrends talk. Can someone summarize what is going on? Are there now 3 versions of Unitrends free? Do any of these versions work on physical servers?

Basically this new Unitrends platform allows unlimited hypervisor based backups, up to 1TB of source data. It would work really well for moderate VMs without any application backup needs... other then that it has quite a few limitations. So for this instance with two physical servers... unless you could P2V them you wouldn't be able to back them up with UEB Free.

The Spiceworks UEB Edition will backup Virtual and Physical servers up to 8 devices total. And will do Agent Based backups or agentless. Not limit no the amount of data

The FreeESXi Version will backup both Virtual and Physical server, it's the version I'm using it does not backup at the VM Host level but will do agent backups. And I'm not aware of limits on the storage or number of devices. You could do agentless backups from another (licesned) host like ESXi or hyper-v but not on itself running on ESXI free I believe

The Unitrends Free only backups Agenetless so will only backup Hyper-V or ESXi VMs. and ESXi must be licensed with at least essentials.

Sorry for my delayed response on this - traveling to Spiceworld London took up all of my time last week (sometimes I wish I could clone myself). Unfortunately, none of our free versions include protection for physical clients at this time. Our Spiceworks Edition, which will protect up to 8 VMs running either Hyper-V or VMware, including ESXi clients with or without Essentials, is a great option, especially if you're an ESXi user (you'll need to notate this during download, and if you forget, just email [email protected] so they can help you get the correct licensing). Our new UnitrendsFree will protect up to 1TB of VMs (except for ESXi clients without Essentials), and both versions include all features, like advanced backup scheduling, instant recovery, & more.

Since it sounds like our free versions don't exactly meet your needs, you should probably look at either our physical appliances or a paid license of Unitrends Enterprise Backup (UEB). Both offer the exact same software, it's just a matter of who provides the hardware, - Unitrends or you. Both can protect over 120 different OSs and applications, including VMware, Windows, Linux, Unix, & much more. Please let me know what questions you may have.

Huh? I have used the free version and the agent backups for physical versions still works in the Spiceworks UEB/FreeESXi UEB.

There's also AppAssure (now owned by dell) to consider.

@IRJ No. I don't this nk they have a free version.
