Can they not hear the wheel noise?

      Over background noise? No.

What background noise? In a situation where there are nothing but electric everything, there won't be nearly as much noise as there is today.

No, if you've ever heard a car coasting or a bicycle without someone pedaling, under normal outdoor conditions no one can hear that noise, at least not before it is way too late. That's how you see videos of people have their car roll away from the while standing right next to it and not looking. Rolling tires are generally just about silent.

LOL - well you already made those thing irrelevant - again, person standing next to car can't hear it rolling.. so yeah I get that nearly nothing is going to provide noise short of just having speakers with fake noise.

That's what years of studies have found. This isn't something new, it is something that electric cars have been dealing with for decades, and just people riding bicycles.

Trump's 4 July tanks prompt 'don't panic' warning

The US military has told Washington DC residents not to panic if they see tanks on the streets for President Donald Trump's Independence Day parade.

At least two Bradley armoured carriers and two M1A1 Abrams tanks will be moved to the heart of the US capital for the president's "Salute to America".

US judge says teenager rape defendant from 'good family' deserves leniency

An appeals court has criticised a judge who ruled that a 16-year-old accused of rape should not be tried in an adult court as he was from a "good family".

The boy allegedly shared with friends a video of him raping the girl

Thank goodness the appeals court had some sense. That judge needs to be investigated. That kind of stuff should be a serious crime.

I was thinking more - where "good family" = wealthy, well connected.

And yeah, that judge should likely be bounced from the bench and possibly in jail.

And someone should point out that the judge was pretty excited that another rapist could go to a "good college". American universities are already hot beds for sexual predators and "good colleges" are getting more and more famous for places that protect predators.

If anything, being from a "good family" and having a "good education" should be reasons to treat him more severely, not less. He has more to lose, more understanding of how wrong what he was doing was, fewer potential excuses. The judge warns that it might "destroy his life" as if that isn't what is needed here. That judge acted like he actually prefers predators in society, like that's the goal!

You seem surprised that a judge favored the wealthy and white in this case. That is the rule of law in this country.

Fair enough. Seems like this judge doesn't want to be the first to drop the hammer on a privileged white defendant, since that is the opposite of what they generally do.

Stromboli just blew up something fierce. A strong reminder to those of us who were just on an Italian volcano a few days ago...
