The problem is, Disney fans are insanely vocal, and generally easily offended. So it's a lot of social pressure that if you don't like Disney franchises that you are expected to not mention it. Much like not liking franchise sports. Loads of people think that they are silly, but there is a huge social pressure to not point out the logical flaws in the games.
Disney is only around because of smart business acquisitions. If they hadn't bought the competition out, they'd be a faded memory now.

I saw I hate football all the time - and so do many other people I know. While I do agree the social pressure is/was there, but it's definitely lessening on a great many things.

Tying all sports together like this is like tying all movie/tv entertainment together - not really a fair comparison.
Sure neither are being dropped en masse, that wasn't my point. My point is that people are separating themselves from the herd and choosing what they do and don't like, and bowing at least a bit less today to general peer/societal pressure, i.e. everyone must love the mouse.
