First MangoLassi Day Follow Up
-
Some folks asked for a follow up on the impact of MangoLassi Day so here I am, following up. Overall the day was a great success. As a technical community, numbers are never as big as you would think. It actually only takes a small number of active people to produce a lot of activity. That's why every new member matters a lot, it is all about the network effect.
The real goal of the day was exposure. We had a lot of people visiting from Microsoft's MSP community and even though few people joined during the day, a lot of people were watching us and that first exposure gets the community into the consciousness of the potential community.
There are definitely new users. A few from the days ahead of the event that we knew were signing up to participate. This is pretty much the new user list from MLD1:
Not a bad list at all. New vendors, new reps, new community members.... a good mix. And a lot of those people were posting during MLD1. A very healthy bit of user growth. Not thousands of new users or anything like that, but those are not realistic numbers for an IT community of this nature. We are very happy with the new users who joined during our push.
-
The next bit would be traffic. And traffic was phenomenal during MLD1. The traffic graphs should us getting record views and record posts all day long. It was solid, continuous activity the entire day. Our busiest day ever in posting activity. Not our busiest for viewership, but the swings in slow days and busy days for anonymous users is so great that any special day like this would have no way of overcoming that natural swing.
In fact, the site was in a trough of "anonymous viewers" according to the graphs that we try to watch and even so the active users were so active that our viewer traffic was at very high levels. Very impressive numbers with around 2,000 - 3,000 page views per hour, every hour, all day. Those are not crazy numbers, but they are very impressive for our little community and show just how much we have grown this year!
It was also very important that we got to see a day with so much viewership and so much posting all at once. The platform handled the traffic without breaking a sweat.
-
Some people were interested in what people-posting traffic was like. So here is the "before and after" shots of the "Top Posters" screen. Nothing that isn't public here, but in case no one looked before and after MLD to see who was participating the most...

Not to mention, the day was just a lot of fun. I think that everyone thought of it as a pretty big success. It takes time to build a community and we see it happening here every day. Things are coming together. But one of the great things about building a community slowly, over time is that you end up with something stronger and more resilient, I hope. A little piece of "home online" for everyone.

The big push day also got three of the NodeBB developers more involved which is excellent. We are excited to be one of their highest traffic communities so we provide a place for them to see the platform pushed to its current limits.
-
We also introduced the first "groups" on MLD1. Not a big thing, but everyone got a taste of seeing the "Service Providers" and "NodeBB" and "Vendor" tags so that verified SPs, NodeBB Developers and Vendors can be identified so that everyone can know who they are. We are hoping that this proves to be useful.

It was fun, glad that I was able to participate.

I am really excited to see how we continue to grow. There are a few new things in the pipeline coming up soon for here on ML as well as at least one other GroveSocial community being launched.
You all made this a great first real push. We look forward to doing some more events like this and getting more vendors involved!
We also are putting everything in place for our first MangoCon (we really have to find a new name for this). This event will be a full scale technical training for IT Pro's. We are looking for real technical value here and I have been talking to a few vendors and getting things ready to get down to planning.

Do you expect this to happen this year? If so, when? I probably won't be able to attend SpiceWorld and MangoCon (new name to come) in the same year, so some heads up would be great.
-
I do not expect it to happen this year. The amount of planning that goes into something like this is monumental. Most Vendors also have to plan this for budgetary reasons at least a year ahead of time. My plan is to have everything laid out etc. by September this year but it wont happen until 2016.

Great, thanks!

Where do we stand on creating the "IT WIFEY" group tag?

I had an ML account previously but couldn't figure out what I made my credentials or what email I used so I just made a new one

It was fun, glad that I got to participate. Would be nice if every day was like that!
