Current projects:
Deploy new DL380 G8 with ESXi 5.5 u1
Migrate VMs from old host
Migrate from Server 2003 R2 to 2012 R2and replace 40 workstations running XP with win7 and win 8.1
Sounds like a good project. Finally someone deploying something current.
The sad thing is, I have two DL380 G5's and the VMWare HCL says they only support to up to ESXi 4.1 i was really hoping I'd have some lab boxes.
I just set two dl360 g5's with 5.5 why can't you lab with the 380s?

Hubtech - your server is a DL 360, not a DL 380.

I probably can, but the HCL does not support 5.5 on the DL 380 G5. G6 sure, but not the G5.

guess i assumed 380s were "newer" than 360s

Nope. The G denotes age. The 3 denotes the level of the server. The 6/8 denotes 1u or 2u. The 0/5 denotes Intel/AMD.
DL360 and DL380 share a motherboard. Just one has a double sized chassis to hold more drives.

If it is a lab, why do you care about the HCL?

@jaredbusch Only in so much as I hope it works. I've read several posts where people haven't been able to install newer versions of ESXi on old hardware (nothing specific to the DL series though).
I've always planned to still try it, I'm simply disappointed that it's not on the list, but I can understand why.

Working via the HCL can save a lot of time versus finding out later that drivers are not available.

That is a given, but when you are wanting to spin up a lab on old gear just for testing, the HCL is not something I even think ot look at unless something does not work. Instead I just install it first. It is alab setup, it is not expected to be production quality.

My project for Sunday was to build a Ikea dresser for my wife. Also make beef biscuit for the first time.
I love IKEA furniture! Affordable and comes with a "fun" assembly project. All my office furniture is from there.

My current home project is "The Fire Pit".
I bought a free-standing fire pit and before I use it, I have some modifications. I have painted the inside with heat-resistant paint. (up to 2000F)
I will line the bottom with heavy-duty foil and then 3" of sand before putting in wood. Considering a layer of lava rocks on top of the sand, though.
It has a grill top, so I can also cook with this thing as well - which is handy, because I don't have a grill. I found some grill sticks with glow in the dark handles that will be fun.I have some concrete paves to put under it. Still unsure where the best place to put this thing will be. I want it in the back of the house for privacy. The folks who lived here before me had their fire pit out front, but since there is a raccoon that likes to visit, I think I'd rather avoid a confrontation with my dog.

Migrated DHCP the MS way yesterday.
In the past I would have lowered my leases to something like 15 mins, and stopped until the normal lease time had passed (say 8 days).
Then (maybe in the meantime) created the scopes on the new server with all required settings.
Disabled the old DHCP server.
Grant rights to the new DHCP server
Enable the new DHCP server, test a few clients using ipconfig /release - /renew.
remove rights from the old DHCP server.
Uninstall DHCP from the old server if desired.Instead I was able to skip the waiting period since the migration process brought all of the lease information over to the new machine, withwise it was pretty much the same.

At work my current project is finishing up deploying some new reports to our SSRS server. Then I have to go back through and inventory everything on there and update/remove anything identified as outdated or unused. I want to get that done soon because coming up in the next week or so we'll be doing some major system changes that will consume the team of everyone on my IS team.
Outside of my actual job my major project is designing and deploying the website for my Awkward Gamer series and also learning the point of, and then using, Twitter for my series as well. I figure it's about time I actually utilize social media to try and get slightly more attention to my web series.
-
Yes. Up until now I think you've been relying on the @ashbot promotion network for that:)
-
OK I've tossed another on my plate - learn to deploy all required settings via GP (GPP and IEAK for IE) and if possible remove the requirement to grant users local admin rights for web application use (i.e. install ActiveX controls without needing local Admin rights)

A recent ML post has me building out AD in my second lab site and testing out DIrectAccess. Beyond that, I'm toying with the idea of writing an AWS Server 2012 optimization script.
