Advocacy Programs for the Tech Newbie?
-
This is my version of a community poll for an upcoming Nerd Journey episode.
Do you see participating in advocacy programs as valuable? Why or why not?
If you could recommend a tech community newbie join one or more vendor advocacy programs to boost his / her career, what would they be? What's the right number to join, and why?
Outside of the larger tech vendors, what advocacy programs exist that you think others may not know about?
-
I dont think that i really know of any.

@NetworkNerd I literally know nothing about these advocacy programs. If they involve bribes (IE: free products, products for review, or money) in any way, they're not better than any other sales technique. I think you remember how greatly loved anything to do with sales is around here.

Advocacy programs are just a here are some things to use. Now tell others about it.
It is 100% marketing. There is nothing wrong with it, but I would never recommend it to a newb. Newbs don’t know enough to know what is good and bad. That is why they are new.

That's a big deal. Any valuable advocacy program for newbs needs to be vendorless. This is a key reason why many university programs are so terrible - they are teaching newbs by definition, and are mostly just marketing arms of vendors.
