The USG was made for stupid people that have no idea that a Router and an Access Point are two different things.
I'm sure I'll get blasted for this - but I seriously doubt this. It's just clear that Ubiquiti hasn't spent the time improving the interface (adding missing features) to the controller software.
No it was made for stupid people. Go look at all the historical posts of idiots begging for a "UniFi" router.

Only site with Demos is the Controller see below:
https://demo.ubnt.com/manage/site/defaultYeah I have a controller running at my house now. But was wanting to replace my router, and was under the assumption I required the USG to tie it into the controller as a replacement to what I have now.
If the ERX is what is needed, then that is what I'll get.

Well, to tie it into the router, yes you'd need a USG. But you'll be very limited. Now, if you're doing next to nothing at home like I am, you could probably very easily get away with a USG, but that would still be crazy because for less than half the price you can get a ER-X, or like $20 less you can get an ER-L.

Then you can setup the sorta newly released USMN (whatever the real name is) reporting tool that JB just made a guide for.

@dustinb3403 ERX works well
-
Here is all you can do from the GUI thanks to that demo link.
-
So ERX to replace my existing router, and tie that into the controller I have running as a VM.
And then setup a UNMS (for what purpose?)

The only issue I have with the ERX is the lack of a console port and a recovery method like the ERL has.
But for the price, if it was in production (not at home) I just buy two.

NO.
-
@jaredbusch I just recently bought one to replace my Sonicwall so I agree though with no console port it is a downside.

I have recovered more than one ERL thanks to the console port.

@dustinb3403 You don't want a USG. Period. Ever.
It is a gimped ERL.
For personal home use, buy the ERX.
Ok thanks
@jaredbusch said in Ubiquiti Security Gateway:
@dustinb3403 To directly answer the last demo question, no. But if you have a UNiFi Controller, all you have to do it poke around the screens there a bit.
The controller lacks a lot of functionality without the ERX or security Gateway.
On a side note, the controller insists on needing a USG to enable certain functionality, does the ERX fill that requirement?
The only functionality the controller is missing without a USG is Deep Packet Inspection.
-
Ok so ERX to replace my existing router, my standalone controller for my APs, my APs, and possibly a UNMS if I want some kind of central management of the ERX.
Correct?
-
@dustinb3403 yes
-
The ERX comes with a management interface much like the controller, no?
-
@dustinb3403 It has both CLI and Web Based GUI to configure it.

Correct, the management interface in the controller is NOTHING like the GUI on the ER-X. It's the Edge Interface.
-
@brianlittlejohn @JaredBusch @Dashrender so what does the Edge interface look like?
I can't imagine it being so wildly different (outside of the functionality)
