What if DNS fails? Then FQDN fails. But what if you move the server or shares to another server and the IP address changes?

FQDN. It a lot easier to move data between servers if users are mapped with FQDN. Especially if using Dfs Namespace.

FQDN normally, way more flexible.

Using the FQDN is ideal... even if you just explain how to used explorer to get to it.
But in some cases, like this VPN connection, FQDN doesn't resolve..

Yeah I hate that about VPNs - DNS issues. In those cases I normally use a hosts file.

Yeah I hate that about
VPNsLAN-centric systems - DNS issues. In those cases I normally use a hosts file.FTFY

geezzz.. if you really need to go there, you have real problems.
