did HPE stripped down their basic iLO software?

I've powered on a brand new dl380g9 today and I've discovered that some features available in my "old" dl160g9 are now subject to extra licensing.
e.g., with my basic iLO in the dl160 I was able to use remote console even after POST, now I can't on the dl380.
I was able to setup my e-mail address for alerts from iLO, now I need an additional license.mmm... both systems have the bundled iLO version, which , to be honest, I do not expect to be stripped down in a dl380 wrt a dl160, as the former costs something like 3x the latter.
only difference is in firmware version: the dl380 has a newer one. really thinking about NOT upgrading the dl160 iLO. grrr
maybe I'm missing something or HPE is going more oracle-ish day after day...

Lenovo IBM servers have the same thing, free only gives you basic stuff and health monitoring, while paid allows you to remote connect to console.
I checked the license and its around ~300 USD.
They all learn from each other.

SuperMicro VARs are looking better every day, or did they start charging for IPMI features as well?

Not as far as I know. SuperMicro is definitely the big winner from HPE and Lenovo falling apart. Dell and SuperMicro are the only vendors I even consider in the US today. Fujitsu outside of the US (just hard to get in the US.)

Deployed a HPE server last year. Painful beyond belief. Making me twitchy about using them again.

I think IPMI managed to phase out Java, if I remember.

I think the DL 300 series have always required I think the DL 300 series have always required an additional license.
my old G5 required additional license in order to get remote console access.

My 2 XS hosts are running IPMI fw from 2014, unfortunately Java still required for things. Perhaps not in recent ones. -
