I want a list of the 120 channels they are giving you. Basically why is this better than Hulu/Netflix/Amazon Prime
Because it has commercials? Wait, that's only better for DirecTV.

If they have the current broadcast they win because they are or near live broadcast time.
If they are anything like PlayStation Vue (I haven't clicked the link for directvnow yet) and have a DVR function, that could be awesome too.
-
Normal DirectTV is terrible. What does this offer?
-
My son looked at it, but decided to go with Sling TV. He signed up for the DVR beta and is waiting to see if he gets selected.
-
I'm thinking about SlingTV because it has so many channels that I cant get otherwise.

@scottalanmiller
It is cheaper. You cant dvr anything and cant skip commercials and pausing live tv is limited. And it is only cheaper if youre a new customer. It is what they did to 'help consumers' so their merger would get approved. -

So much less than Netflix which is barely more money than that.

The basic SlingTV package is $20 a month (plus an additional 5 if you get the kids channels)... So my family pays $25 /month for SlingTV.

SlingTV is always advertised as $15 around here. No idea of any details as I've not looked into it much. But access to stuff that DirectTV doesn't carry, like foreign channels, is a big deal.
And does DirectTV work outside of the US? SlingTV, I'm pretty sure, works the same everywhere.

I just noticed Sling TV has both the cartoon network and adult swim as separate channels. Are they 2 different channels or are they trying to fudge it to seem like they have more stuff?

I'll check the Adult Swim channel tonight. I think they just play the Adult Swim stuff 24x7 instead of having to wait until after dark.

Ah I see, SlingTV is very complicated and confusing. They don't show you all of the options. Their website doesn't even show the options that they advertise to me on Facebook. But if you switch your language to Spanish, then the menu expands, then switch your region to Italy, then the stuff that they advertise on US Facebook shows up as an option and the $15 is there. That's, um, a bit crazy.
Can you change your SlingTV packages month to month? Or is there some limitations on that?

As far as I know you can change them at any time. I've only had to make one change, and that was to add the Kid stuff, lol.

Isn't their stuff on demand anyway?

What sucks is what I'd want is $35 - $55 which is outrageous for the tiny bit of casual viewing I'd consider. I could buy everything that I want to watch directly for less and own it forever.

I wonder if you are in the minority there?

Does anyone know if Sling is location dependent? I know that Netflix is, what you see is based roughly upon where in the world you are because of licensing for that part of the world.

They claim that they are not.

Where in the world that they think you are. If they get confused, you get the wrong programming.

That's cool. That's some of my favorite no-brain watching fodder.
