That looks pretty slick for SSH. Why use X2Go instead of Putty? or if you want saved sessions, instead of Xshell5?
X2Go is an NX client. Putty is an SSH client. Very different use cases.
Ah, good note. Thanks

@BBigford Ah, I gotcha. I never run into that because I'm a paid customer. 8-)
MobaXterm is pricey, for sure... but definitely worth it to me.
IT has a built in SFTP engine so that anytime you connect to a Linux machine, it gives you an SFTP tab for up / downloading files, so you don't have to use yet another application for that.
So far MXT is pretty awesome. I noticed right away it has the same scaling issues as Terminals though.. If you start a session when the screen isn't maximized, you have to re-establish the session. It only takes a few seconds but it's just something I notice.
I believe if you hit the fit to Window size button that it should resize and not totally reconnect.
yes, but it reconnects. And this can be a PITA if you are using a remote X session for example, because it will login again and your old session is lost. This IS an issue in MobaXterm.
So far, my only complaint. Not an issue just with Moba. This is an issue with many many vendors. So far, that is something I can overlook since it is so common, and it is really my only complaint. Everything else is awesome.
To be honest, most tools are using the freerdp library behind the scenes. And so does MobaXterm, AFAIK. The problem is within this library
That would make sense if all the ones having issues are using that library.
Anyway. Found the screensaver yet?
Checking that out now.
Haha bummer...

This is why everybody is recommending X2Go these days. 8-)

X2Go provides a remote GUI, much like Remote Desktop does for Windows... It includes the ability to disconnect and not lose all your work... Can XShell5 do that [just curious, as I'm not familiar with it at all]?

I don't want to foot the bill, and the worst thing that could happen to the network this year just happened, so I'm holding off on asking. Someone screwed up reeeeally bad.

Someone did something they were told never to do... overwrote a production database with a broken, outdated dev one. Happened by putting a dev database on a production SQL server. Tried to do a roll back... turns out he's been messing with it for a week. Oops. Interested to see how this turns out... looking over my monitors, I can see sweat forming on his brow.

...and it's on a server that is the core of the company. Someone is on the phone with support right now though. So hopefully it'll get fixed today. If I was him I'd be shitting my pants right now. He'll be pretty lucky if he keeps his job.
-
@BBigford Yeah imo he shouldn't... that's really not someone who should be touching production servers/environments...

Oh this is LIVE AS IT HAPPENS.
Exciting.... maybe we need a thread of "up to the minute disaster news" for this!

Developers, in general, should not. It's not a good combination of duties.

I verify my backups, so I saved the day.

1AM this morning (they start after close of doors cause they typically take around 8 hours. So we lost a day, but better than a week.
-
@BBigford Nice! ... Do you guys not have translogs or anything to get closer to current?
-
@dafyre said in Remote connection manager:
@BBigford Nice! ... Do you guys not have translogs or anything to get closer to current?
I'm not sure about that one. Someone else is handling it with support. I was told in the beginning "incremental for a week, then full backups at a week is ideal". I set it at that, but the company said don't do incremental cause they don't help in this instance I guess. So they're switching over, but we lost a day.

@dafyre said in Remote connection manager:

We do keep translogs, but the way that he messed with it, and nobody knew until a week later, really messed with "what is really current?"

@dafyre said in Remote connection manager:

The reason I didn't know for sure about that one cause some production systems temporarily get moved over to circular logging.
Every time that happens I chirp up with "well if we have a catastrophe, backups won't be the same." This being one of those instances... but nobody had circular logging enabled it looks like. So things weren't totally screwed.
