Also trying to determine how I want to do some documentation. Online, Offline, Paper & pen or Paper & typewriter.. don't know where I want to go with it,..
Well... Paper & Typewriter is more likely to be legible to others. Especially if you have handwriting like mine!
You can then scan said typewritten documentatoin into PDFs and upload them to the web for both Online, offline, and Paper hardcopy... How 'bout that? -
Got in some Tropico 4 today. Now working while @dominica plays Tropico across the table from me

Trying to figure out how to convert an ASUS T100 (hybrid Lap-let ) from Windows 8.1 to 8.1 Pro... with a VLK.
Nothing has worked so far...
Oh well, if all this exercise achieves is that I uninstall McAfee, then I still count it as a win. -

I just entered the VLK key in 8.1 either using command line or add windows features (don't remember which) and it converted it to pro without re-install. If you want to reimage USB boot is fairly easy.

Yeah, I tried the "Add Features" crapola but that didn't work. I get the whole "this key won't work. Check it and try again or try a different key".
Also tried replacing the key in the computer properties and Windows wouldn't have a bar of it.
I was thinking about USB booting it as a last resort but we are trialling this tab for a possible deployment for students. I want them on the domain and if we buy 20 more of them, I want to avoid spending the time USB booting them as it's really time consuming.
I have a few other tricks up my sleeve before I give up and USB boot. -

I have a few other tricks up my sleeve before I give up and USB boot. You should be able to use DISM to do it from the command line.
DISM /Online /Set-Edition:Professional /Set-Productkey: Key with dashes here

Thanks
I gave that a go but no joy. I checked the Windows version with DISM /online/Get-CurrentEdition and it came back with CoreConnectedI was all "lolwut?". Then I found this tidbit:
CoreConnected is called “Windows 8.1 With Bing” and it is a free version of Windows targeted at low-cost OEM devices.

I would hazard a guess that this is not going to work as it's missing bits... hang on... <researching>...**Imaging & deployment testing
**>Customize and deploy Windows 8.1 with Bing just as you would any other Windows image. Add your unattend settings, apps, drives, and other items to your image. Deploy the image to a reference PC and validate that your apps and services function as expected.
http://bav0.com/windows-8-1-adk-leaks-some-interesting-stuff-inside-bing-edition-more/Hmmmm, I'll add some more patches and then try again. I'm prepping a USB to boot from too

It's a slimed down 100% free OS. I don't think it's even eligible to use with volume licensed pro upgrade on top of legally. You'd need to buy the Windows 8.1 Pro Packs I believe.
-
Yep. Just checked. You need to buy Win 8.1 Pro Packs to fully licesne them and then you can use one of your VLKs with volume media to using your imaging rights if you have volume licenses. Just make sure to document that these are installed with the VLKs but licensed with the OEM + Pro Pack.

That's double dipping on MS's part.
Thanks for the info. The viability of these T-100's is slipping away by the minute.
Yes, they are awesomely inexpensive but it seems that you make up for it with licensing costs. -

Yeah, that does seem to be the dollar value of the price difference

The same viability problems exist for the new Surface 3 - $499 is way to expensive for any business to eve consider it.
To get to a similar footing as the Surface Pro3 you'll need to add $100 for the Pro Pack and $50 for the pen. Now you're at $750... only $50 away from the cost of an i3 Surface Pro 3....
The Surface 3 is $100 to expensive for what it is.. it should at least include the keyboard at this price.

Is the Surface 3 using windows with bing? I though it was windows 8.1 Full version.
I honestly think the HP Pro x2 612 is a better deal than the Surface Pro 3. Comes with a real keyboard dock that works exactly like a laptop and has an extra battery in it. As well as lots more ports than the Surface pro 3. A business grade docking connector so you can connect everything including 2-3 monitors. And has windows 8.1 Pro.
