Every few minutes on SW there is a new thread of someone wondering "how to patch Windows" because, you know, apparently no one has ever patched before! WTF people!!
FFS
It's not really that bad, actually more like four a day. Still, feels insane.
If they are never patching their Windows servers... I can only imagine how often those same people are patching their Linux servers...
Can't beat "never"

@scottalanmiller because reality checks in , same thing happens with backups
We mentioned that in the one thread... Tim and I were both like "if you aren't patching, we assume you aren't backing up either."
-
SAme people will often have the "I cant afford to virtualize" statements. So no snaps before they do major patches.

One of the reasons I left out for why I didn't mention checkpoints, is because I doubted he was virtualizing. But I guess he was... at least one thing was done right.

I'm mildly surprised.

I do suppose it's possible to own an Lamborghini without an engine.

That guy with the eggs in one basket. . . wtf. . . glad I haven't been on SW's in a while.
-
That one guy actually said that he didn't like the idea of reducing points of failure. WTF. What is wrong with people?

Why do you guys go back there and torture yourselves so? I answer the daily question and that's about it, lol.

I liken it to being able to replace a single chain link in the entire chain. Sure the bike is broken either way, but this single chain link is easily replaced.
Why he wants a chain that's a mile long I have no clue, but hey, more power to him.

I don't even do that. I stay clear of it.

Because I avoid those questions

That thread is so bad it begs the question that I often think... would these guys be terrified to find out that their boss read what they wrote?
Things like "I hate protecting my business from risk." When you say something that pretty openly equates to that, how would a manager or owner see that? Are they like "huh... no wonder our systems are so complex, fragile and expensive - he's likely doing that to protect his job or something."

I've no doubt there are folks that operate like this on purpose, not just accidentally.

A lot of them. I've seen tons admit it, so I assume tons hide it, as well.

That last analogy doesn't even make any sense. I've got no idea what they are saying there.

The donut one? Yeah I don't get it.
