Basic income would indeed be an improvement in many ways. I believe/hope it should/will come with a shift in our culture towards a more open and enlightened society. Unfortunately change takes a long time. We are a stubborn species.
And vengeful. A lot of the people who work will want the people who choose not to not to get anything. That's the problem. You have to accept that the workers take care of the non-workers. But because working is purely optional, hopefully that fixes a lot.
How do we move towards this though? Many countries (especially the ones I care about most, Canada/USA) have trashed their education systems. I would begin there and build that back as a foundational block of society.
It's a big project and it makes me want to run for office.
Matt Speller 2016. It's not too late to announce yourself independant
Being born in Canada might make it too late for him, though.
There were so many claims that President Obama wasn't born in this country. I think Matt could get away with it. What would @MattSpeller 's slogan be?
"Vote @MattSpeller 2016.... or he'll knock the cigrits outta ya. Friggin rights, bud!
Ironically one of my first acts of office would be to ban tobacco cultivation. As a consumer of it I would suffer right along with everyone else.
I would hope other types of cultivation would be decriminalized as a trade-off...
Aye with the same rules as booze. Same cultivation rules as tobacco however, no corporate or private production for sale. You want it, grow it, but it will be a cottage industry at most.
Tuica!!
Tuaca???
Um, no. Tuaca is an Italian vanilla appertif. Tuica is 130 proof plum brandy moonshine from Romania.
So you're sending me a bottle for my bday next month?

@scottalanmiller That gives new meaning to Plum/Prune juice being the drink of a warrior.

Prune (meaning plum and pronounced prune-eh) is the national fruit of Romania and Tuica is the national drink. You drink if before every meal. EVERY meal.

Must be a very ... regular... tradition.

So it's the Canadian pronunciation... eh?

oh my... Know this one from a vacation in the Czech Republic, isn't that far away from Romania. As far as I remember it just doesn't taste much like alcohol at all, and that is dangerous
-
@thwr oh no, this TASTES like alcohol. It BURNS.
I'm drinking the one in the picture right now. I'm friends with the distiller, too.

Must be something similar then. TBH, I don't know much from that evening anymore, nor does anyone else who was with me

This thread is a great example of RAID 6 rebuild risks. 11 days and many more projected before the rebuild is complete. Not that large of an array, either.
-
@scottalanmiller Never knew that with RAID6. Good to know in future

We've seen rebuilds go into MONTHS before!
-
@scottalanmiller well, that depends on a few factors. One of my systems is running a RAID 60. A stripe over 5 stacks of 6 disks in RAID 6. Don't ask why, it's there for a reason.
Anyway, each disk is 1TB NL-SAS @ 7.2k RPM. Rebuilding a failed disk in a stack takes roughly 16 to 20 hours.
