Linux Installation Issues
-
I'm working on getting Linux Mint 18 installed to my new Asus ROG laptop and I am having issues. No matter what I do, booting up stops at the Linux Mint logo and nothing more happens. I tried switch to Korora 24 and at least that brings me to an error screen.
Anyone have any idea what might be causing the installation to crash out so early?

Trying to post the error but my phone is having its reply problems again.

Running in compatibility mode things get farther...
/init: line 7: can’t open /dev/sr0: No medium found
Now this is what is catching me. It can't find its own live filesystem.

Did you disable secure boot in the UEFI?
-
Are you installing from USB, PXE or DVD?
Can you run a live USB? -
Did you say you reinstalled windows to the spinner, and were going to install Mint to the SSD? Where is the Mint ISO being run from?
Does a livecd run just fine?

Wow. Run MemTest, maybe?

This drives me bat-**** crazy at times. A long time ago, in a drug induced haze, some Debian developer thought it would be a good idea to write a check to make sure that a cdrom is mounted and available in the installation routine. If it doesn't find a cdrom, never shall it move on.
If you're using a usb stick, the "fix" is to have a copy of the iso on the stick and mount the iso to /cdrom.

Can you run a live USB?It's supposed to be a Live USB stick. It's gets this far from the USB stick and dies at this point.

Live is the only install method for Mint.

No luck changing secure boot to off. Same behavior.
-
What about some other distro, just for testing? Could be a bad or missing kernel driver for example
-
Is there by any chance a NVidia card in that system? Noticed the nouveau driver. Can you disable the NVidia card (e.g. second onboard card)?
