Chromebooks See Huge Growth

As I wrote last week, I love the HP Chromebook I've just got. But to use for business you'd need to be running Google Apps rather than Office, and even then I doubt they'll succeed in 90% of cases. I've a few niche applications where they might be a good fit - but ultimately they'll remain just that: a niche product.
I think they recently started working with VMware on some stuff. http://blogs.vmware.com/euc/2014/02/vmware-horizon-view-extends-chromebooks-enterprise.html

MA Office via Office 365 has a web interface and works. As does LibreOffice.

Owning one, I can see why they are popular. So easy to use and so affordable.
Would you consider buying a chromebook over a macbook pro?

I've never actually used one and we are having our laptops refreshed, so I thinking of checking one out.

Simple way to sample one. Try living with Chrome as your only application. That's what a Chromebook is.

Wow, that could be interesting. They do have a lot of extensions for chrome.

A user of mine just got one (personal use), and he let me play with it for a couple of days. If you use Office 365 (Outlook online) or Office Online, it's really pretty great. He just uses his for web and does all his work when traveling through an RDP app for Chrome. They are light, cheap, and fast. Not a bad call at all.

A lot of people are using them to connect to virtual Windows desktops - but that's just using them as a thin-client really, isn't it? I can see the appeal if you're already setup for that environment and a looking at refreshing your existing client hardware. But we're not, so I'm more interested in if they can stand alone as a true Windows alternative - which I don't think they can.
What's MA Office? The main problem I have with Office 365 on them, is I believe it requires a permanent internet connection to work, something which is never available. Whereas Google Apps work in offline mode. I'm currently using Quickoffice, which came with my Chromebook, which is ok but flawed.

You can work in offline mode with 0365 I do it all the time even for my SharePoint and CRM

With a Chromebook? I stand corrected. That's cool.

Yeah, but is it offline mode with web base app or the locally install windows/mac app?
-
off line with locally installed things but not on the chrome book part of why it just didn't work for me.

If it's locally installed it's not Office's web system.
