HELLO CYBER SECURITY WORLD
-
W'sup everyone and Merry Christmas. I'm about to start my journey into the Cybersec world. I started out studying for Fortinet firewall cert, I got my FCA, for the professional level...I decided to head into the FCP, Public Cloud Security.
In doing my research, I came to understand that FCP is proprietary. Meaning that I can only be valuable to companies with Fortinet products. Then I discovered CCSP. I was thinking this, Fortinet FCP, was that, CCSP. But THIS wasn't THAT. lol! As I kept researching, I then discovered CISSP. OMGness!! It never stops. I was blown away to find out that CISSP is CCSP and more. So now I have made up my mind to pursue both CISSP and CCSP. I read that CCSP is a nice compliment to CISSP even though most of CCSP information overlaps with some of CISSP.
At first I was a bit nervous. I didn't know how I was going to afford the study materials or where to start. But then I came across some DOPE resources for guidance. Study groups and free courses!! Here are some sites I found:
Skool
Cyber Seek (it has a map of all the cyber jobs in demand in the USA)
CISSP on YouTube (Providing a full free course in CISSP. God is good!)Did you know if you have a library card that you can have free access to Linkedin Learning (formally known as Lynda com) catalogue.
If anyone in Cyber Security have any other cool resources to share, please do. I haven't even taken the exam yet and I feel so blessed. Wish me luck!
Oh! If anyone is starting their journey in Cyber Security, hit me up. Let's become study partners.
If any Cyber Security professional care to mentor someone, hit me up. I could use an Obi-Wan Kenobi. lol!
To all who has started and or thinking about starting...g'luck. May my lil resources be of some help to you.
Each one, Teach one!

I might have read the tone of your post wrong, but I feel compelled to share my philosophy on certs.
"Chase the skill, not the cert."
Take some time and effort to think through some goals ("Cybersec world" is quite large). Afterward, think through the skills you need achieve the goals. Lastly, determine how to develop the skills. That step is what leads you to find a cert that can provide a curriculum for learning what's necessary to develop the skills.
For example.
So now I have made up my mind to pursue both CISSP and CCSP. I read that CCSP is a nice compliment to CISSP even though most of CCSP information overlaps with some of CISSP.
If you haven't done so already, be able to describe what specifically you hope to learn from going through those certs, and how it helps you achieve the
$goal
. If you can already describe this, great! If not, you might save yourself some time and money by taking a step back and thinking stuff through, which it sounds like you did with the Fortinet certs. -
@EddieJennings thank you so much for your valid feedback. I very much agree with you about chasing the skills and not the certs. However, companies, in the cyber world, wont take you serious, if you can't produce a degree or a cert to show.
I'm all for the skills. At the time I wasn't aware of the many different levels of CyberSec. Now that I'm aware, I know what direction I would like to go to gain the skills and the cert to get my job. This is why I wanted to know if there is anyone out there, who's already in the field, could provide some feedback, study guides...etc.
Again, thanks for your input Eddie. Your suggestion is already in play.
