TacticalRMM is no longer completely free. It's open source, so I'm not completely unhappy about it. But it is at least $50/mo for full functionality (unless you alter the code yourself to disable the fee... which they even say that you can do.)
I don't think that the code-signed agents were ever available free of charge....
Yes, but the Linux functionality is only available when you pay for the code signing. And it's not something that you want code signed.

Correct, they haven't ever been.
Scott simply isn't paying attention.
Non-signed agents were available before. Now only limited platforms. It's VERY different.

Maybe something that was available in the beginning or that I missed along the way. My understanding is that TacticalRMM was only ever usable with Windows endpoints. I seem to recall reading that there was a possibility of some Linux functionality being developed but I can't recall it ever having been rolled out on Tactical. I know that the mesh agents have been available for many more platforms for quite some time, but this is the first mention I can recall seeing that TRMM was ever available for anything other that Windows.

For now because the Linux agent was just released. Once the agent is out of beta the website clearly says it'll be available for everyone.

Right, it was always "works on Windows, Linux and Mac are coming." But what was there was always free (but the agents have never been open - not ideal, they say that they plan to make them open eventually...)
Now Linux has come and when you go to use it, it just throws a code signing error.

Hopefully. Right now, though, they've added it to the prod release, not beta, and it has the issue. We aren't deploying any beta.

I checked their website this week and they said that the agents were currently still closed, but they hoped to open someday. Maybe they did this recently and haven't updated yet. That's great news.

They've been on GitHub for a while from what I remember. I linked them to someone back in like January, but they were under the old org name.

Is there a general consensus with regards to the "appropriateness" of using Tactical in a production setting? I've setup a quick install to test and evaluate but I was unaware of the whole monero issue https://www.reddit.com/r/msp/comments/rqm0go/a_statement_from_the_founder_of_tacticalrmm/
Given the increasing costs of everything we're being asked for possible ways to cut opex but wouldn't want to put my head on the chopping block in the event that things go south.

I don't know of any reason to question it. Most RMM I know you should be really scared of. Ninja, Kaseya, Barracuda, Connectwise... all I'd rule as totally out of the question to deploy on security grounds. Tactical is one of the few that can be short listed.

There is no issue. This is just BS stuff. It's not a thing, you weren't aware because it's not a real issue.

There was no monero issue, unless someone screwed up by the numbers.
What other RMM are you able to audit the code for? All the closed source ones are generally even worse.

And I like that I can run it on my own system. Not worried about a vendor getting compromised through other clients or whatever. I can lock TacticalRMM down however makes sense for me.

All good points.... I've been sitting alone with my thoughts for too long, good thing it's Friday.... Just an hour left
