Resources for mastering Linux and getting RHCSA certification.
-
Hi there,
I have total of 8 years of IT Experience as IT Generalist mostly. Current position is in Windows environment.
I'm familiar with open source tools, and have little work experience on Linux (CentOS and Ubuntu).
Trying to stream line the career into following areas:
- Full time Linux Administrator
- DevOps
- System Administrator (Windows and Linux)
In this process, I want to learn Linux deeply and get RHCSA certification.
Thinking to get a course in Udemy (because it's cheap), and of course spinning RHEL 8 on VMs under Developer Plan etc. Any cheap or free book (soft) will be great, I will get it printed and study.
Any relevant suggestions are welcome, either with regards to Linux or Career.

@EddieJennings did some great YouTube tutorials and talka on it. He can help you out.

I've got a partial Linux Admin guide here on ML. @EddieJennings has a huge YouTube channel on exactly this. And my book on Linux Administration is scheduled to hit shelves in September.

RHEL is big, you definitely want to learn it. But be aware that Ubuntu is by far in the dominant market position. I wouldn't focus on only one thing, because Linux tends to be a "use different things" kind of animal and it is a pretty rare shop that deploys only RHEL (or RHEL at all.)

Thanks for mentioning me.
@openit These are the videos mentioned.

Most of them were my final practice sessions on objectives before taking and passing the RHCSA v8 exam, and there were a few that were made afterword. The containers objectives, for example, weren't on the RHCSA when I took it.
I, myself, don't consider the videos an actual course, since I wasn't an RHCSA yet, and was still reviewing concepts; however, the information within to best of my knowledge is accurate.
This was my general learning path. For about a year, I looked at objectives on and off. Then December 2019 / January 2020ish I decided to get serious about preparing for the exam and actually taking it. I did the original RHCSA course on Linux Academy and then the updated one as a refresher / becoming familiar with the v8 concepts. I read through the Sander Van Vugt book as the first big review. As my final review, I went through each of the listed objectives and asked myself if I could teach / do the concepts, which is from where the videos came.
Became of COVID 19, my exam kept getting pushed back. I originallly was to take it at the end of May 2020, and I ended up taking it in August. In retrospect, that was fortunate, as I took that waiting time to do many of the "final review" videos.

You bothered to write a book? Isn't it going to be outdated before it's printed?

Thanks all for your responses.
Really appreciate it if someone can direct me to a good RHCSA 8 book (soft), I will get it printed, to read and go through the course on Udemy along with it.

I did
I read through the Sander Van Vugt book as the first big review.
This is a link to the second edition, which I'm sure addresses the updates to the exam.

No, because it's well written. Tech actually doesn't move very fast.
