Power Management: Color Cords

On a Dual PSU server, has anyone thought of using color coded power cords to manage which PSU is in a battery back up?

Yea - Could go that route. I don't know where the thought came from really,.. But why not? Many use color coded patch cable. -

Some where along the line- the thought of hospital electrical came to mind. Electrical outlets which are on backup power are colored (red) for easy identification.
While I've not spoke to anyone about it, it seems impractical to have both PSUs plugged into the same UPS, so why not split them and then identify them by color.

Not a bad idea. That does make sense for quick identification.

It is. I always have at least two quality UPS in place for servers and have the PSU split between them.
Additionally for gear in a colocation space where I do not need a UPS, I will make sure to plug everything in to different power bars (my colo host has 2 power bars in each rack that are on different circuits).

Definitely impractical. Not 100% wasted as it does protect against PSU failure, still. But it does not leverage the degree of protection that you should have.
