You are kinda forced to pay a service charge in the US ain't you? Its not forced here in the UK and most don't too but I like to if the service has been good.

Forced? no - as @Obsolesce (I think) was saying - he never tips (I assume that's what you mean by a service charge). It's typically not required -but FULLY expected.

If you don't tip at a place or for the service (delivery) expect your next order to be messed up somehow.

        Pineapple on pizza anyone?

The way I see Service Charge ( working in this field) is the occupation tax that is the Businesses obligation to pay the city they are operating in, Businesses then Obligate that to your check, because fuck my customers.
It's ridiculous, but restaurant owners are greedy people.

My mother was a waitress. It doesn't matter to me if the food was garbage -- I can't blame them for that, as long as the waiter/waitress was polite and put up with me. I typically give 50% tips to men, 100% to women, and a few times I've gone up to 1,000%. I also tip pizza delivery guys 100% and a few times one repeat deliveries they've brought me "free" stuff.

I realise this is unrealistic for most people, but I'm also attempting to covertly buy my way out of hell.

I know, I was being ironic, because tips don't count as zakat and even if they did, it's not really giving if you expect praise in return by talking about how giving you are. I do donate money to charity though.

Today's the court day for the women who killed my best-friends dad back in August when she was driving drunk and flipped her car on top of him while he was on his motorcycle.

I've been trying not to think about it, seeing how I'm missing it.

She's been in jail since, The kicker?

She already had her license suspended for 6 DUI's, 3 driving under suspensions, and unrelated, she was found guilty on charges of theft and shoplifting, and facing fraud charges.

hey how are you guys in the usa going? seen it's very bloody cold up there.

how do you keep yourself warm on a day when it's minus 30 with windchill of minus 46?
Does the electricity shut down/crash/collapse? How do you keep going? that's real survival first type stuff.

Most people heat their home with gas around here. Generally a lot cheaper than heating with electric only. Mostly need electric for a blower motor. A lot of people that own houses also have a wood or coal stove/fireplace just in case. Also, no exposed skin when you do go outside (join the mangolassi telegram group to see what I mean, @JaredBusch has posted some great example pictures lately.)

i'd much prefer the 110 degree days we've been having.

You're welcome to it, I'd much rather have severe cold than extreme heat. I can always put on more clothes if necessary, but it gets difficult to take more off at a certain point, and 110 is way past that point for me.

                              good luck people.

Well I realise it's an unpopular thought these days but someone like that is totally un-reformable and clearly is incapable of properly interacting with the rest of society. In other words if I were "in charge" or what have you, I'd consider this situation a capital crime. I'd also not wait 30 years to carry out that punishment [America] and waste tax payers dollars and thus making capital punishment "expensive." It's actually really cheap if you actually do it.

Edit: and to avoid any sort of potential debate here about the death penalty, I don't really care if people disagree with me, because I'm not in power, I don't vote, and it doesn't matter what I believe because I can't fix problems within the American justice system and neither can you,... well maybe, if you are American and vote I guess. Feel free to disregard me as the shell shocked aging man I am; that's not even a joke.

She got the max - 18-20 years in prison. Parole eligible in 10 license suspended for 15.

Well, it's something, a lot of people get off with no time at all after murdering people with their carelessness.

yep : she's eligible for parole in 10 years though...
so if she gets parole, then she'll go 5 years without being able to drive, and have to pay a huge fine.

@WrCombs I hope they lock her ass up

She's been in jail since, The kicker?

She already had her license suspended for 6 DUI's, 3 driving under suspensions, and unrelated, she was found guilty on charges of theft and shoplifting, and facing fraud charges.

She got the max - 18-20 years in prison. Parole eligible in 10 license suspended for 15.

So she'll be allowed to drive while in prison potentially?

yep : she's eligible for parole in 10 years though...
so if she gets parole, then she'll go 5 years without being able to drive, and have to pay a huge fine.

I'd be sure to go to her hearing in 10 years, if nothing else than to support your friend while he explains that she gets to keep her life and his father doesn't.
